This week seemed like a good time to do a little mental inventory of where my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects stand at this point in the year. Putting my thoughts down in words and pictures will give me a record of where I need to go from here.
The Tiny Tuesday blocks are just about ready to be sewn together! I have 56 blocks, most have their sashing, and the right amount are set straight or on point for the layout I decided on. I did redo the sashing on a few this week, particularly my black and white blocks, so that they would fit in the right spots, like the bottom left corner below!
And how about some little penguins right in the center? :)
Meanwhile, I have some other projects in the queue that I'm ready to move forward, especially the Scrappy Sprouts. I made 20 sprouts blocks throughout 2018, and then have stalled out on what to do with them this year. The last time I shared a picture, they looked like this:
I've been struggling with how to add a "sky" as background for some Dresden sunflower blocks above the sprouts and have never been able to come up with something that felt just right, that fit my vision. So, without going into too much detail, I will just tell you I got out my seam ripper!
Instead of 4 rows of 5 sprouts, I've rearranged a bit, with the thought of creating 3 rows of 7 blocks each, and that will leave a much smaller area to become the sky. The quilt will finish at about 48 x 60 which is a comfortable size to work on, and at this point feels "finishable," which is better than in the time out pile!
I also started making the Tiny Rails blocks in 2018, and now have 23. I need to make two more of these, but not sure in what colors.
My 10 inch Color Gradient blocks began as an experiment earlier this year. This is the most recent picture I have of them, but this week I did finish up a brown block to add to the pile. I think I'll keep making these in 2020.
And finally, the 12 x 18 string blocks in rainbow colors.
That orange block looks practically florescent, but it really isn't, I promise!
The big blocks are finished, but I'll now continue to work on more neutral string blocks that will border the rainbow blocks.
Although I need to work on some Christmas projects in the next few weeks, I will definitely plan to make some progress on these projects by the end of 2019 as well.
What's your plan for your rainbow of Works in Progress? I can't wait to see!

that is a lot of RSC projects - I wouldn't be able to keep up with them!! All so pretty and all so different!
ReplyDeleteI love your RSC projects. I must make a sprout quilt. I have some old RSC projects sitting around I should move along too. Mine are from a while back.
ReplyDeleteSo much colorful fun happens in your house! My plan for my scraps seems to be just keep thinking about them, LOL
ReplyDeleteYou have so many wonderful rainbow projects in the works! I can't decide which I like the best--maybe those tiny little rails? They are all beautiful and very inspiring!
ReplyDeletenow the fun begins
ReplyDeletelove the Tiny Tuesday blocks. I printed up some of them so I can do them at a later date; might have to make multiples in order to have a decent amount of blocks. Your sprout quilt looks like a bit of a challenge, but I've seen some of your work and know that you can meet that challenge head on and succeed!
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me to get out my sprout blocks! And finish up the last of the Tiny Tuesday’s!
ReplyDeleteI’m trying to decide what block or blocks to do for RSC20! So many choices!
I can’t wait to see your TT quilt top. I know it will be stellar! And I love your idea of bordering the colorful rectangle string blocks with neutral strings. Must remember that. Here’s to lots of finishing in the next few weeks!
ReplyDeleteSo smart to make your "sky" smaller if you were struggling with it! Now the sunflowers will fill that space. It's going to look so great! I'm quilting up one of my RSC finishes today and hope to share it soon. Lately I've been more motivated to sew than blog :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome block collections, Diann!!
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy, I particularly love the tiny rail blocks and your graduated squares. Great work on all your projects.
ReplyDeleteI am so woefully bad at finishing up RSC projects. I have enough Chantal pinwheels to make a quilt and now probably have enough chandelier blocks, too. I'm almost caught up on missing Tiny Tuesday blocks but need to find replacements for the applique ones that I skipped and find fabric for sashing.
ReplyDeletePat
Love all your projects! I think your tiny rails needs another aqua and another lime green, but maybe that's only me!
ReplyDeleteAs always I love your tiny blocks, but those diamonds are gorgeous too!
ReplyDeleteYou are making some great progress on your projects. They all are looking amazing! Are you starting some new blocks in 2020?
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous. You have so many lovely scrap projects! The Scrappy Sprouts will turn out very well, but sorry you had to do it again. The Tiny Tuesday blocks are very nice and I like the colorful Tiny Rails. It's so inspiring to see your sewing work. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... This is RSC heaven!
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me with the scrappy sprouts project... I have some blocks to that need finishing, and you gave me some ideas... must go and find them!
Your tiny Tuesday blocks are fabulous!
How about a navy blue and a light gold for the remaining rails blocks?
Your photos are a font of inspiration! I love how colorful all your blocks are. I really, really love your tiny bits!
ReplyDeleteSo many gorgeous blocks! I especially love those diamond strings!
ReplyDelete(And I think your little rails need more orange, but you can ignore me because I ALWAYS say more orange!)
So many lovely projects.
ReplyDeleteYour sky would look great using lots of shades and squares. Like a mosaic.
I really love all your projects, so colorful and pretty!
ReplyDeleteI spent time in my sewing room yesterday rearranging and found myself wishing I had more walls to make into design walls - lol! I'd love to keep my projects up and visible so that I don't lose track of where I am on each, but I love your idea of taking an inventory, so I might just do that today. ;)
