I Like Thursday #149 - garden, sewing, and a book

Good morning, friends!  Thanks for visiting my "I Like Thursday" post, and be sure to visit all the other bloggers who link up their positive posts with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color every Thursday morning.

The other day I liked this temperature on our weather station at about noonish.

A couple days before, at about the same time, it was reading 100 degrees, so this change in the temperature was much appreciated!

I like pulling carrots out of my garden to have with dinner!

Makes me feel like at least I can grow *something.* 😍

But then, look what I found growing!

Finally, some peppers, and a few cherry tomatoes, too.

I like sewing string blocks.

I've been making these every month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

This month I decided to try an alternate block with only half being the light blue, and the other half sewn with neutrals.

I like this!

More about these blocks in my RSC Saturday post.

This week I've been reading a book from the Virgin River series by Robyn Carr.  Thanks to Karen at Karen Quilts, etc, for recommending this series earlier this year.

I've been making my way through the series little by little, downloading the ebooks from my library whenever the next one is available.

I've liked these books because, although they are romances, they also have good storylines about how the characters take care of their families and solve problems in their community.  Very enjoyable reads!

Have a great Thursday, friends!

  2. Yay on the nice temperature! Your carrots and peppers look wonderful. Are your veggies in containers? I'll have to give Robyn Carr a shot. I'm currently making my way through (for the hundredth time!) the good old James Herriot series. Hope you have a great weekend!

  3. I have been reading some of Robyn Carr's other series as I had completely finished the Virgin River series - I wonder if there will be more? The other series are good too she has a lot listed in order on her website.

  4. Your string blocks are awesome. I had one tomato on a volunteer plant that came up not even close to the garden. Um chickens took a big chomp out of it the other day. I agree the 70's temps are nice, but it feels like summer was just a speed bump on the way to fall.

  5. Isn't this cooler weather glorious?! Good sleeping weather. I haven't read Robyn Carr, so may have to give that series a try. I have a stack of to-be-reads that seems to be growing. Good heavens, even my reading list has squirrels! Ack!

  6. I was thrilled to see that 70's forecast this week. Carrots are so pretty! Funny how just a vegetable looks so much prettier just pulled from the earth than in a bag at the store. Still grateful we can buy them year round!
I got a couple peppers but no decent tomatoes yet. Hopeful. the best thing for me was eggplants, but next year I'll plant more limas as they were so sweet!
Have to check out that author.

  7. Hi Diann! Oh, that's a good sized green pepper. Makes my mouth water, and we only got two very small ones. What a fabulous temperature change - makes you let out a sigh of relief, doesn't it?! Yum to freshly grown and pulled carrots. Is there anything more satisfying that harvesting your own dinner. Your string blocks look fun - I have never made any. Maybe someday soon - it looks like a fun design and a great way to use up some strips I have hanging around. ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. Your carrots look so yummy. Do you think I can grow them if I plant down the middle of my trough? I got one really good pepper off three plants. Gonna skip them next year.

  14. So glad your temperatures are cooling down to more comfortable levels. Overnight, it is cooling down here quite sharply so we know the season is changing.
What fun to have a garden that is producing...
I love those strings in a diamond pattern. Really caught my eye, Diann.
