The drive up out of the desert was into the Arizona mountains was beautiful! We enjoyed the view as we drove. So many saguaros!
See that little "object" in the photo? First we thought it was a bird, then maybe a plane. Mike is calling it a UFO, lol! Really it is a ding in the windshield caused by a rock!
We arrived home to crocuses blooming!
They were so happy on Tuesday morning! (But unfortunately, they are now covered by several inches of snow due to the extreme storm that we had Wednesday...)
I love my new sewing machine, and missed her so much while we were gone. Tuesday morning I pulled out all my greens and proceeded to make a beautiful green scrappy mess!
In my working life I was a 5th grade teacher, and gave many lessons about the difference between "are" and "our." I know they are easy to misuse! But look what I saw on a sign at our shopping center this week...
It's partially covered by a shadow, but can you see what's bothering me?! Mike calls me the grammar police because I have been known to tell business people about things like this!
If you're looking for something enjoyable to listen to , I would recommend this:
The Friendship Album podcast.
This is just a screenshot of what you find at the website Quilt Fiction.
It sounds like an audiobook, but it is a podcast. The story is about a small town in Ohio in 1933 and a group of women who become friends. I'm really enjoying it!
And for our poodle friend, Milo - look at this pretty girl! Macy visited the garage sale at my mom's last Saturday. I just had to take her picture!
Hope you're having a great week! You'll find me in my sewing room, happily making more scrappy messes! But first, I'll be visiting all my friends at Not Afraid of Color for "I Like Thursday."
Awe great likes. I don't consider myself the grammar police but I sure do notice when signs are incorrect. Love the pictures of the saguaros.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a pleasant and productive visit with your mom AND got home before the storm! I had a 7th grade English teacher who threw erasers at grammar mistakes. I know she is rolling over in her grave over the misuse of pronouns these days.
ReplyDeleteSuch nasty weather for March it was on the news showing photos of the mess of traffic and accidents on the interstates - glad you got home before it - I don't know why so many people stay on the roads when they know it will be bad I would pull off and find a motel I think.
ReplyDeleteThe saguaros are so unusual I'm so very glad I got to see them last fall - it will be something not forgotten now and know how amazing it is to see them.
Hi Diann! I'm glad you had a nice visit with your Mom and have made it safely home. In front of that BIG storm, too. I didn't realize your mom lived in Arizona - how nice that you could drive down and help her clean out her garage and have a sale. My mom was a HUGE lover of having rummage sales. Me, not so much. Maybe because she always wanted to have one . . . Oh, that sign would drive me nuts using are instead of our. Good grief. I so often see on FB posts your and you're mixed up. I didn't think it was all difficult to understand that you're means you are. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteOh those pretty crocuses were such a tease but so enjoyable to my eyes. Can't wait now. That drive looks interesting with so many growing things I have never seen.
ReplyDeleteAlso interesting, I have never seen are and our mixed up so must be a local pronounciation thing. Here it is your and you're all the time and I even have a Winner's mug with it incorrect on it. I joke that I'd like to offer my grammar correction services for signage especially. :)
Welcome home! Glad you are tucked back in your sewing room and playing with those green scraps! What fun!
ReplyDeleteWe've just gotten the rain, which I don't know whether to be thankful for or not. LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh, I feel your pain! That sign REALLY bothers me! Yes, I admit it, I am a grammar cop for sure. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of green things you produce! Welcome back home. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL on the chip in the windshield. (unfortunately). Glad you made it home safe and sound before the storm. Cool new sewing machine-it's like missing your child when you're away. I could have been a proof reader- I see mistakes all the time especially in published books! I still haven't listened to a podcast. Maybe I can find time to check out this one on your post. This sure was an interesting post today! Have a great weekend. mary
ReplyDeleteThank you for the podcast info. I have just begun to listen to podcasts.
ReplyDeleteThe grammar in our local paper drives me nuts. Thank you very much for the link to The Friendship Album podcast. I've downloaded a few episodes, and will be listening to this while I sew this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to check out the podcast. I always spot those mistakes. I try not to let it get to me but it does. Sometimes I have to sit on my fingers and not correct Facebook posts. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love your UFO. And crocuses! How beautiful! (oh, and that sign is jarring!) LOL
ReplyDeleteYou KNOW I love those saguaros! Our daughter and family live at the AFB in Aurora and we heard and saw pictures of the storm. Wow. Well, hopefully this is the third and final winter this year, hehe. Glad you’re home safely. Grammar like on that sign drives me nuts and I am never shy about pointing it out because I believe it’s just plain embarrassing - for them. (DH would probably do an eye roll here).
ReplyDeleteDon't get me started - I'm a full-fledged deputy of the Grammar Police! Your and you're, they're their there, our are (doesn't even make sense to me), etc. And the misuse of adverbs. "The remodel turned out beautiful." I hear this verbal mistakes all the time on television, and I cringe. Sigh. Glad you enjoyed your AZ visit, and that spring has a possibility of making an appearance soon.
ReplyDeletenew sewing machine! Yea! I have grammar pet peeves although I don't always say the right thing myself. If we pronounced the words correctly, it would be obvious our and are are not interchangeable, but people get lazy about pronouncing words. I kind of get peevish about despite/in spite of. And people saying "no problem' instead of you're welcome.
ReplyDeleteAZ looks fun, gotta go visit, and the UFO made me laugh
Milo here... what's her number? She's cute!
I am a card carrying member of the grammar police, and my daughter is an honorary member - lol! We joke all the time about poor grammar - it's everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are enjoying being home with your new machine.
I'm not into podcasts, but I've been tempted to check this one out.
Welcome Home. Your sewing machine missed you. I have become a huge fan of Milo. Wonder what my cats would do if they had a dog in their midst. Happy sewing ... :) Pat
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful yellow crocuses! Hope they are at least peeking out from the snow for you by now? I think there's a difference between mistakes from rushing (spell-check/grammar check tends to make us lazy with the grammar) and blatant errors. That sign..a blatant error. Proofreading matters. Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
ReplyDeleteJoining you from I Like Thursday - we used to live in Arizona, and I just LOVE saguaros! I am also really bothered by grammatical errors … especially when they come in such BIG font!!!
