I Like Thursday #116 - Winter Golf

Last week when I was writing my Thursday post, it was only a high of 15 degrees!  Within a few days the temperature had risen into the upper 50s to low 60s.  Gorgeous weather for January!

So what did we do?  We went to the golf course and played 9 holes!  We had so much fun!

My husband LOVES golf.  It is his absolute favorite thing to do, and I've posted before about part of his love for the game being the opportunity to make his own clubs.  I'm on the receiving end of this hobby of his - and this Christmas my gift was a new putter.

Fancy, huh?!  :)

I like the way he made the grip match the head!

Color-coordinated!

We dressed in layers, but ended up in shirtsleeves about halfway through the round.

Walking up to the tee box.

One thing about winter golf that I hadn't experienced before - you have to pound the tee in with a hammer!

Lots of geese on the mostly frozen pond.

Such a beautiful view!

We really liked our winter golf day!

Joining in, as I do every Thursday, over at Not Afraid of Color for "I Like Thursday!"

  2. how neat and what I love seeing these photos is people walking!! I drive right past a golf course where people here in Arkansas use year round and they are always and I mean always using golf carts to get around - no walking pulling their bags and I always think of the lack of exercise they are getting - you guys know how to do it right!!

  6. that was fun. You know we live on Murphy Creek golf course... come visit and play here. It's supposedly really good, but I saw a cover on the putting green of one hole yesterday so they may be closing for a month. The geese will be relieved to have it to themselves. One of them flew over and pooped on Milo's head. ewwwwww

  7. Hi Diann! Winter golf - on how my sister would be jealous (in a happy for you way). She adores golf, and so did her husband until his recent health issues. She had hoped to travel the world, trying out all the golf courses but that didn't pan out. Anyway, how fabulously cool that your husband can make golf clubs! And fancy dancy ones at that. LOVE this post. Happy Thursday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. How cool that you could golf in the winter! Of course, that's why most people spend part time here. I didn't know you could make golf clubs. very cool. Beautiful landscape. Enjoy! mary

  9. Wow, that putter is awesome -- and color coordinated too! I hope you get some good long putts that drop right in. Better yet, I hope you can give the putter a break and just hole it out. Everyone should have the pleasure and excitment of a hole in one! I haven't golfed in years, now, but we used to go out weekly. Never did get to golf in winter though. You don't get that often here, but this year I'm sure some are out.

  10. Love your putter. What a clever man your husband is. Looks like a wonderful golf course. We are almost having to hammer our tees in here in New Zealand because it is summer and we have had very little rain so the ground is like concrete.

  11. Your putter looks awesome! My husband used to make clubs back in the 1980s and really enjoyed it. I'm so glad you guys got to play! Pounding the tee in is something I never had to do - lol!

  12. We live about three blocks from a golf course and they play year-round. The only time it's closed is for snow and ice, which is pretty rare. It freaked me out the first time I saw golfers in January, but I do love going walking over there in mid-winter! Love your new club, too!

  13. I'm imagining all the hammering going on at your golf course. Bap, bap, bap. That interspersed with the honking of geese. Love it!

  14. That's awesome! Sure wish I could have played along with you....frozen water hazards sound friendly as well! :-)

  18. Wow nice putter. LOL Winter golf, um here when we had a couple of 50 degree days would have lost the tee in the mud.
