and to lay out all of the blocks I've made just for a quick look!
Depending on what color we work with in September for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I'll add another blue or a green block. Since I seem to keep adding scraps to my scrap bins, I can always find enough pieces to make one of these blocks!
While a few orange scraps were still out, I decided to make us a couple new coasters - in Denver Broncos colors to celebrate the football season beginning!
I decided to make Quarter Log Cabin blocks, and sewed the strips onto a piece of batting, quilt as you go style.
This time I decided to try adding a layer of clear vinyl inside the backing piece to see if I could make the coasters waterproof.
A yard of this from Hobby Lobby was really inexpensive, and turned out to be easy to sew through. Now that I have it, I'm planning to try making a zipper pouch with clear sides.
And here we go, all ready for some football!

I love how your 'tiny rails'blocks are looking! Hm-m-m- just how tiny is tiny?
ReplyDeleteLoving your tiny rails. It will be fun to see how you finally set them. Those coaster would look nice in two-tone blue, too!
ReplyDeleteThe rail quilt is looking lovely! I love those mug rugs! It's always fun to find new products to incorporate in our projects, isn't it? Have a great day!
ReplyDeletelet us know how those coasters work out - I have several mug rugs that soak all the way through from condensation - you really can't use them on nice furniture for a cold drink. I love that first set of blocks that you show!
ReplyDeleteGreat coasters... let us know how that vinyl works for the soaking through.
ReplyDeleteWow, those tiny rails!! When you get that many of them together, there is so much movement. Love it! Looks like dark blue is September's color and I'm happy about that :)
ReplyDeleteNot a Bronco's fan, but your mug rugs look great! Looking forward to the fall and some football, too.
ReplyDeleteLove the tiny rail blocks! How big are those blocks? I know you've mentioned it before, but my head only retains so many details. :D
ReplyDeleteHey, look at that! Your mug rugs are equally appropriate for August AND September! 8)
ReplyDeleteI love those tiny rails. I've filed them away for RSC2019. Or possibly 2020. (So many quilt blocks, so little time...)
Cute mug rugs! Go Broncos!! I hate Hobby Lobby, but may just have to run over there for some vinyl, LOL. BTW, I left a comment on your last post, but once again I see it didn’t go through (second time this month). I don’t know what’s up. But know I’m always reading and cheering you on, LOL. xo
ReplyDeleteLovely orange Tiny Rails block, and they all look so good all together! Cute coasters too!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a sports fan but I'm a fan of your little rails and those mug rugs.
ReplyDeleteYour tiny rails are just so cute! I love how they all look together. It’s funny how new scraps get added over the year as we try to use them up. Good idea to put the vinyl on the coasters.
ReplyDeleteLove the tiny rails! Yes, do let us know how the coasters work out.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to add vinyl inside your new coasters!! The QAYG technique worked worked really well, too.
ReplyDeleteSo the vinyl is sewn inbetween the backing and batting? Have you ever tried the iron on vinyl? I bought some a very long time ago thinking for placemats and never used it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to use up some scraps. How did the vinyl work out?
ReplyDeleteThat vinyl sounds like a very clever idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun coasters. It is so satisfying to make something useful from all the odds and ends.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look so pretty all together.
ReplyDeleteAnd great idea to make your coasters water proof. I always end up stacking a couple up to soak up moisture. Keep us posted how they work and launder.
