All of these toys got lots of use -
The fountain was a great spot for the sea animals!
But it turns out that my sewing room was the most favorite place of all!
Ellie, who is 8, is very creative and loves to make things. So, create and make we did!
A pillow with birds on it!
Ellie's design using fat quarter pieces and scraps made a larger quilt that we backed with some purple fleece I had. (I think that fleece was just waiting for her to come visit!)
Little brother, Will, who is 4, wanted in on the action, too, so he helped design a couple of pillows and this drawstring bag.
My pincushions got lots of use -
And they explored the button box, too!
But, by far, the favorite "toy" was the basket of scraps I keep under my cutting table, where I throw the leftover bits before sorting them into color tubs.
On the very last day, Ellie pulled out a bunch of polka dot scraps and designed this fun little piece -
She cut the scraps into little pieces and I sewed them in long rows, but left the bottom of each piece open, which created a "flappy" effect! I think this one was my favorite!
We had so much fun while they were visiting!
"Sew Happy!"
Can you tell I really enjoyed this family visit? There was a lot to like about it. Hope you're having a great week! I'm joining in with the I Like Thursday gang over at LeeAnna's place, Not Afraid of Color. Hope you will join us, too!
Hi Diann! What a fun, fabulous post. Ellie did a fabulous job on her pillow and quilt - how fun having a purple fleece backing!! And Will will enjoy that drawstring bag to hold all of his treasures. These are priceless memories to have and to keep for years to come. What a nice visit and I'm so glad you shared it with us!! Happy Thursday! ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! I love the sea creatures in the fountain-playing in water is so much fun. And Ellie is well on her way to being an excellent seamstress. I must admit my favorite toy box is also the scrap box.
ReplyDeleteit is always fun to see what kids well come up with - when my daughter brings her husbands great niece over to visit she always wants my box of 1.5 inch squares and she will glue them to art projects - speaking of which I haven't seen her in awhile she has been very busy this summer.
ReplyDeleteHow great that the kids wanted to sew!! I love it! And such fun, creative projects they made, too :)
ReplyDeleteAh, I've got HUGE smiles for you as I read your post. This type of quality time with family will cement relationships and plant seeds for creativity, and possibly a desire to sew, years later. Great fun!
ReplyDeleteButton boxes are always fun to explore. Looks like lots of fun projects.
ReplyDeleteOh so much fun and you brought back so many memories of sewing with my granddaughter when she was young! Thanks for sharing their wonderful visit!
ReplyDeleteI love time with family...especially the little ones. I have been teaching some of my granddaughters how to crochet this Summer.
ReplyDeleteSuch adorable kids!!! Looks like you have new followers. That pillow is super cute.
ReplyDeleteI will look for Ellie's fabric line in a couple of years!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog Aunt Diann 😀 love Ellie.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time! Fabric scraps and buttons were some of my favorite playthings. Their projects are so creative!
ReplyDeleteIt's so encouraging when kids try something new, especially an activity that we enjoy - it gives us a shared foundation and a new bond. So glad you had a fabulous visit with the kiddos! Enjoy your weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteYay! Little friends are the best! And it doesn't hurt that they are both adorable. It looks like they had a great time - something they will always remember.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait till our youngest granddaughter gets old enough to try some sewing. :)
Such clever and creative kiddos. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteVery fun and creative stuff. Glad it was a great visit.
ReplyDeleteSo cool, just think perhaps this is the start of a new generation of quilters!
ReplyDeleteI learned to sew at this age on granny's treadle machine. I taught my great niece how to sew at 8 too, and she preferred my Bernina!
