Until I dust! :)
My book club group was coming over to my house the other day, and I was cleaning, and it made me pay attention to some little things that I hadn't really looked at for awhile. (Okay, I will admit that dusting is not my favorite chore!)
I like these little ceramic cows. They are salt and pepper shakers that my sister gave to me years ago. They like to hang out on my kitchen counter, but have actually never had any salt or pepper in them!
I like my smiley face mug that a friend gave me when we graduated from high school. (a million years ago!) I kept it in my classroom for all the years that I was teaching 5th grade, and it was the place for kids to find an extra pencil when they needed one. Although I got rid of a lot of school things when I retired, I had to keep this mug!
In the mug, I keep 60 little messages that my teaching partner wrote and covered my door with when I turned 60. They are fun to re-read now and then, and make great bookmarks!
I like dalmatians! This is Perdita, from the movie, 101 Dalmatians. I got her when our kids were little and we took them to Disneyland for the first time. At the time, we also had our very own (real) dalmatian, and he looked a lot like Perdita!
I like old family pictures! This is my grandmother as a young girl. Look at her, on her toes like that! Ballet is something I tried as a little girl, but never mastered
I like grapefruit! My mom lives in Arizona, and has a grapefruit tree in her yard. Her grapefruit are so tasty, and look what she sent me! A box of them, right off the tree. It's a little thing, but it meant a lot to me that she would do this!
And and update: A few Thursdays back, I wrote about discovering zucchini noodles and how I liked buying them in a package at the store, sauteing them up, and using them instead of regular noodles or spaghetti. We found ourselves doing that pretty regularly, so we decided it was time to buy a gadget that would enable us to make the noodles ourselves.
I like my Veggetti! It works great, and since zucchini is really inexpensive to buy whole, I think it will pay for itself in no time. Here she is, working away for us! And only a little bit messy to clean up!
I like "I Like Thursday" posts, and look forward to reading about the things our I Like community has thought about this week! Join me for the weekly blog hop at LeeAnna's place, Not Afraid of Color.
Oooo cows, and the ballet picture is priceless. I wish it was mine. I love old pictures and that's precious. Good for you with the spiral cutter, just don't cut yourself! The little sayings are just the best gift and memory from school.
ReplyDeleteZuchinni noodles sound fun and definitely healthy! How nice to have family who sends you fresh citrus.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the Veggetti before. It's much bigger than I would have guessed. I need to try making the zucchini noodles yet. It took me a long time to try cauliflower rice and it's great. I love your gifts you have saved for so long! mary in AZ
ReplyDeleteI love the mug and it's messages. What fun. The Veggetti - what a ridiculous name. But if it does the trick! I mean to try zucchini noodles one of these days, but I'm not sure I could sneak them by my partner. lol
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your posts - they make me pause and appreciate the little things I love too.
ReplyDeleteYes I too find it funny in what we 'kept'--I had to part with lots and lots of my 'wanna keep' stuff when I moved from NY state to Florida 18 months ago--I miss some of the things--and several things got broke--but some I could glue back together--but not everything--one thing that broke, but I kept a piece of it was a plate with blue birds on it--one piece was large enough that it had 2 blue birds on and I kept that piece--
ReplyDeleteand I love zucchini--so gotta look for one of those machines--thanks--
enjoy the moments, diane
The noodles!! Fantastic! I love your treasures! The messages in the cup are so sweet and truly a wonderful remembrance. I'm going to have to look into that Veggetti! Thanks and have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteA few things you mentioned here have prompted me to take action...1) Get out my VeggettiPro, buy some zucs and use them! I've had that darned thing for months! 2) Get out the old pictures in antique frames, clean them up a little and DISPLAY them! I also love old family portraits.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nudge.
Diann, loved this. Your sharing is priceless to me. :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter bought a Spiralizer and loves it. Seeing the Veggiti makes me think my husband and I need to get with the program!
It's time you put some salt and pepper in your cows. LOL! :)
Such fun things on your shelves. Love the picture of your grandmother. The cows are fun and so is your smiley face mug. Thanks for the chuckle, I remember those smiley face mugs, it's been awhile since those were popular.
