I finished a scrappy red placemat this week, continuing with my goal of making one in each color of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
Small red bits from my scrap bin were sewn into larger squares and then rectangles until I had enough to fill a 12.5 x 16.5 slab.
When deciding what to use for a backing, I came across a yard of this cute polka dot that seemed perfect!
I liked it so much that I decided to use it for the binding, too. These placemats make a fun and satisfying finish each month!
Here's the Rainbow, so far!
Wondering now what color we'll be adding in April!

You can have two extra people for dinner now that you have four placemats. Nice finish. I’m ready to tackle the next RSC colour. Gail at the cozy quilter
ReplyDeleteLovely RSC placemats you've made, Diann;))) Great idea for the RSC this year...Hugs, for a great weekend Julierose;)))
ReplyDeleteLove your collection of placemats, Diann. The binding on the red one really makes it sing!
ReplyDeleteSeeing your rainbow collection is so satisfying. The polka dots are a great binding for your red placemat.
ReplyDeleteGreat placemats, and the backing is so fun.
ReplyDeleteThese are so, so pretty Diann! You have the prettiest scraps. The scrap with flowers/leaves and the ones with loops add such interest. I am just about ready to start making placemats with my scraps. We got two huge TV trays, but they are "slick", and placemats would be perfect for them.
ReplyDeleteI love your reds- so pretty how you did then up
ReplyDeleteA great way to sneak in a few scraps, love that polka dot backing.
ReplyDeleteAre you still making the placemats for Meals on Wheels? They are so cheerful. Wherever they land, someone will smile!
ReplyDeleteFun red placemat. Love the polka dotted backing and binding.
ReplyDeleteThose placemats are so fun. A pink one will look great.
ReplyDeleteAnother fun and pretty placemat, Diann! It's such a great idea to make one each month in RSC colors.
ReplyDeletePolka dots just seem to make things fun. You've got some beautiful placemats made so far.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great backing and binding for those red placemats! You sure do make the most wonderful items out of "bits!"
ReplyDeleteAnother nice placemat, Diann. And I love the polka dot fabric for the backing and binding. Do you attach the binding on these completely by machine?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project for RSC! The polka dot backing and binding are a delightful touch.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to make a collection of placemats in the RSC color.
ReplyDeleteI like the reds and the dots -- and the wavy cross hatch quilting! Pink is the color for April. (It's great that she posts it ahead of time.)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea! You always inspire me with your quick projects. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThe placemats are so colorful and utilitarian, Diann! Love them! My son was visiting last week and remarked how much he uses the scrappy hot pads I made. I told him that I use mine all of the time. I should definitely make more for the both of us. :)
