One more red project for March

I finished a scrappy red placemat this week, continuing with my goal of making one in each color of the month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Small red bits from my scrap bin were sewn into larger squares and then rectangles until I had enough to fill a 12.5 x 16.5 slab.

When deciding what to use for a backing, I came across a yard of this cute polka dot that seemed perfect!

I liked it so much that I decided to use it for the binding, too.  These placemats make a fun and satisfying finish each month!

Here's the Rainbow, so far!

Wondering now what color we'll be adding in April!

  1. You can have two extra people for dinner now that you have four placemats. Nice finish. I’m ready to tackle the next RSC colour. Gail at the cozy quilter

  6. These are so, so pretty Diann! You have the prettiest scraps. The scrap with flowers/leaves and the ones with loops add such interest. I am just about ready to start making placemats with my scraps. We got two huge TV trays, but they are "slick", and placemats would be perfect for them.

  15. Another nice placemat, Diann. And I love the polka dot fabric for the backing and binding. Do you attach the binding on these completely by machine?

  20. The placemats are so colorful and utilitarian, Diann! Love them! My son was visiting last week and remarked how much he uses the scrappy hot pads I made. I told him that I use mine all of the time. I should definitely make more for the both of us. :)
