Fall came in on Monday, and brought with it a change in the weather! On Tuesday it rained here the entire day - we got over an inch of rain in about 8 hours. For people who live in a dry climate like we do, that was amazing!
I spent much of the afternoon wrapped in a quilt, reading. It was so enjoyable! Michael Connelly is a favorite author of mine, and I finally got to read his newest book, which introduces a new main character. A good story!
Our regional airport here had an air show going on this past weekend, and we were able to see the Air Force Thunderbirds practicing for it right above our neighborhood. They make quite a roar as they zoom by! They entertained us for a good hour on both Thursday and Friday afternoons last week.
And the fall leaf colors are entertaining right now, too. We went for a scenic drive up in the mountains yesterday, and the aspen are at their peak right now - just gorgeous!
The rain we got on Tuesday brought snow to the mountains above tree line, and it was beautiful, too!
LeeAnna's question of the week is about our learning styles. In thinking about that this week, I guess that I am a combination of things. In college, I took notes in class, and then re-read and highlighted them at home, and when studying for a test, I read them out loud to myself. So - a combination of visual and auditory learning.
As a quilter, I do a combination of things, too, when trying out a new pattern or quilt block. I read and re-read the pattern, take notes, plan out the fabric choices, talk myself through making a trial block - sometimes out loud! I imagine many of you do much the same thing.
These are my notes and preparations for
mmmquilts' Beothuk Star QAL from a few years ago.
It's always amazing to me how different autumn comes to certain areas. We won't see the leaves changing here till about mid October. Hanging out in a quilt with a good book and a cup of tea is a perfect fall activity. I'm pretty much a visual learner, with a fair amount of just do it in there too.
ReplyDeleteI am always envious of your proximity to those beautiful mountains and the aspens. I follow several meteorologists on Facebook, and some have been posting photos on Facebook of the winter wonderland in the CO mountains. How fun to see the Thunderbirds!
ReplyDeleteI'm so interested in your learning process. Any kind of instructions for crafting have never been hard for me, so I find it very strange that I struggle reading quilting patterns. I like your methods - maybe they will help me.
Beautiful Autumn views for you! I rarely make a test block, I just jump in feet first and go for it. I do glance over a pattern before beginning but don't read word for word. Sometimes I cut all the fabric first and sometimes I cut as I go.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the beautiful aspen photos and the Thunderbirds. Our daughter was telling us about them. The rain was welcome I’m sure. I was hoping we’d get some as that front moved along, but we didn’t. Had our sprinkler system blown out , so I guess winter is coming. Like it or not.
ReplyDeleteOh the fall colors are looking so pretty. We are getting some changes here as well.
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous view of the mountains!
ReplyDeleteGlorious captures of beauty and Autumn 🍂
ReplyDeleteThose aspen trees are gorgeous! I might have to check out Michael Connelly books, I'm not sure if I've read any. I talk to myself alot while I quilt, or to Wilbs. He's a good listener!
ReplyDeleteI love the aspen trees in color they are so pretty the best there is really. I loved the book and I think there is a Lincoln Lawyer book coming out soon too but I might be mistaken I will need to look. We had several rainy days and we needed it too everything was getting so dry
ReplyDeleteHow fun to have your own air show! Yay for rain. Your peak leaf time is early! Our color is filling in this week. You do much better notes than I do for trying out for a new pattern.
