I Like Thursday #436

May in my garden is for planting!  Right around Mother's Day is when they always tell us we should be past the last freeze.  So that's what I've been doing this last week.

Green bean seeds in the raised bed -

Plus we added a cucumber plant and pumpkins.

A couple tomatoes in pots -

And flowers, too.  I have good luck with petunias, so I plant a bunch of those every year.

Today (Wednesday) started out as a beautiful day and we played golf with a friend. There are tons of goose families at the golf course, hanging around the ponds especially.  The little ones are so sweet!

Later this afternoon, the sky clouded up, everything got very dark, and we had a huge thunderstorm!  Now the temperature is in the 40s and we have all the plants covered with buckets and sheets.  That's Colorado in the springtime!

LeeAnna's question of the week is about motorcycles.  Have I ridden one?  Yes - three times, I think.  Did I like it?  Ummm, not really.  It went too fast for me, without much protection.  But I did have a good time on a little dirt bike once.  We were camping with family and everyone else had gone fishing, except my sister-in-law and me.  She asked if I wanted to learn how to drive the dirt bike and I thought - why not?!  So she taught me - and that was fun because I could control how I went.  I don't have a picture of that event, but here is where we were camping - a neat place up in Wyoming called Vedauwoo (pronounced Vee-da-voo).

  1. Those Colorado thunderstorms are the best! Are your green beans the bush variety? Mine have sprouted, but after these past few days of heat, I just hope they hang on. That is a beautiful place to camp!

  2. I finally called the landscaper to get the vegetable gardent plot tilled! The goslings are cute. I've seen swans in ponds (in forest preserves) but I have not seen any cygnets.

  4. a long time ago I would plant green beans and always have a good harvest and I planted other vegetables as well then about 15-20 years ago my luck changed and I never got much of anything - it was to the point of why bother. I have no idea when the beans started to not produce or other things as well - I just quit with all that and stick to tomatoes and berries now

  7. Oh I look forward to watching all of your plantings grown. I'll start with some flowers after our next trip. Hoping our colder temps are gone for good.

  8. That was some storm last evening. I was putting fuel in my car and got drenched. It washed the dirt off my car mostly. Our daughter and her friend tribe camp at Vedauwoo, also. We rode a motorcycle for nearly 15 years. Had many fun and interesting adventures.

  12. It seems that the spring storms this season mean business. So glad you at least got things planted. My dad raced dirt bikes when I was growing up, so I learned how to ride when I was about 8. My brother learned to ride a motorcycle before he learned to ride a bike!

  13. a dirt bike seems more controllable and something to share with a SIL. Did you get hail today? we got a lot of large marble sized, they flew onto the covered porch, covered the grass, onto the porch chairs, and into the house when I opened the door to take a photo!
now, bright sun, now that we had our 10 min of precip!
