I Like Thursday #420

Happy Thursday!

I saw this online somewhere the other day, and liked it.
I'm thankful for soft quilts, warm mugs, and kind friends!

When it snows here, the juncos show up, and we enjoy seeing them.  They are such pretty birds - but very active, so hard to get many photos of them.

After looking through my stash for coordinating fabrics for this year's Stay At Home Round Robin project, I decided to go shopping at my LQS.  This is what I brought home -

Definitely a feeling of Spring here!

Younger son decided to bake bread the other day.  He used a yeast bread recipe from my old Better Homes and Gardens cookbook for "Cheese Bread" and it turned out to be really good!  We decided to do smaller loaves just to make sure they baked all the way through.  I don't always trust my oven temperature - does anyone else have trouble with that?  Some things bake just fine - other things can be way off and under done.

One of our favorite PBS shows came back for a new season this past Sunday, "All Creatures Great and Small."  We enjoyed the first episode!

Hope you're having a great week!  I finished the Pieces of My Life quilt - that's a big celebration - I'm working on a finished post for tomorrow.

  1. Oooh, luscious fabrics. Looks like you and I will be using the same color palette for our SAHRR quilts. We have similar problems with our big oven.

  2. I'm all for soft quilts and warm mugs, they've featured very predominately in my mornings and evenings this winter. Beautiful color palette for your SAHRR. Our home oven is pretty much on temp, but when we do holiday baking in a rental, it's usually all over the place. We have an oven thermometer in our "go" bag and that helps a lot when dealing with off temp ovens.

  3. Pretty fabrics for your SAHRR! Oh that bread looks yummy. Give me a loaf and stick of butter! When we lived in Oklahoma I struggled with my oven, and it made catering difficult. Things like muffins wouldn't rise in mine, it was the oddest thing. When we moved to another house, I was so glad to find out it was the oven and not me. ;)

  4. That is a perfect message for the world these days. We too love All Creatures and can't wait to start this new season. I don't know why they wait so long between seasons when a show is so popular. Lovely fabrics, Diann.

  5. I am also thankful for quilt, warm mugs and friends! Those winter birds are quick and difficult to photograph. I enjoy watching them as well. Love your spring fabrics and the bread sounds wonderful. I've noticed ovens do not work as well as they used to. I keep trying different adjustments for each of my tried and true recipes, but haven't hit 100% satisfaction yet.

  6. the cheese bread looks great. I don't always trust my oven but most times it is right - but yesterday I'm glad I checked the cake when I did because it was done in 30 minutes and would have burnt at the stated 40 minutes

  7. That is a beautiful meme. There are so many good people in this world and we need to remember that. The cheese bread looks so yummy! I also love All Creatures. I remember reading his books to the boys when they were young. Such a treasure!

  10. Quilts, friends and warm mugs! What a great thought. Love your fabric haul. Your SAHRR will be so springy. Tell your son, I’m impressed with the cheese bread . I have never in 60 years mastered yeast bread! Truth be told, I gave up a long time ago, due to failure! We had a home baked loaf of jalapeño cheese bread while we were in CA. A lady sells her baked goods at the bowling alley. It made fabulous grilled cheese sandwiches. Bet yours did too!

  11. That quote will be needed often in the next 4 years. I like your fabric choices for SAHRR. Lucky you to have a bread-baking son in residence.

  12. Rob loves the juncos around here. :-) Love those pastels. It took me a while to get the hang of my oven - but making small loves makes a lot of sense. We started watching All Creatures, too!

  13. Quilts, warm mugs, juncos, and homemade bread! What a heartwarming post, Diann! I made sourdough baguettes for the first time today and they turned out scrumptious even if I do say so myself! 😁

  14. Yes, a warm mug and a warm quilt! We couldn't wait for All Creatures to start the next season, cannot get enough of that wonderfully written story. The bread looks great. Yes, I've had that uncertainty with my oven, so I asked Santa to bring me an oven thermometer. I've found mostly that the oven is close to what it should be, but is hotter at the back than near the door.
