November in my garden looks like this:
Marigolds still trying to bloom amongst the fallen leaves and leftover dried blossoms.
I let them go to seed so that they will fall in the garden and spread more plants for next year. Marigolds are one of my favorite flowers!
We watched and enjoyed season 1 of the Marlow Murder Club on PBS the last few Sunday nights. It is from the book series by Robert Thorogood. I enjoyed the TV show so much, I decided to read the books, too!
These are the actresses who play the main characters. I recognized the middle one right away from... somewhere... Do you recognize her?
The actress' name is Samantha Bond and it turns out she was also in Downtown Ashe played Lady Rosamunde, the sister of Lord Grantham. Plus she played Miss Moneypenny in some of the James Bond movies. It was kind of fun to figure that all out!
Do you drink Chai tea? I haven't had it a lot, but a friend served me this the other day, and it was very tasty. She mixed it about half and half with milk, and heated a cup full in the microwave. I think she said you can get it at Sam's.
It's that time of year when we're all getting ready for Thanksgiving. I bought a turkey today (Wednesday) and have my list started of what else we'll need. Our older son is planning to drive down from Nebraska for the long weekend - weather permitting. We do a pretty low-key meal: turkey, potatoes, stuffing, veggies. When we used to have bigger extended family meals, I was always asked to bring homemade bread. Maybe this year I'll get younger son to make some! 🍞
I finished up the crumb heart I've been making for my friend, and it's ready to send off to her. I really enjoyed hand quilting it. I don't know if you can see in the photo, but I used the hearts in the white background fabric as part of the stitching design.

I'm sure your friend will be so delighted with her crumb heart. I love those little hearts you outlined. We thought we were going to have Thanksgiving at our daughter's house, but she started a new job and doesn't think she'll have time to get everything ready. I'm more than happy to jump in - it is my favorite meal of the year, and I love fixing it. Going to head to town to buy "supplies" today, hopefully beat the weekend crowd. Our son Jeff and family will come on Thursday, leave on Friday, and Jenni and family will come for the day Thursday. It'll be a full house!

ReplyDeleteI remember the actress you mention and would have wonder where I had seen her before. We do a low key Thanksgiving also and don't even know for sure if it will just be the two of us this year or not, one daughter is 3 hours away and isn't planning on coming so far and the others mother in law is a lot older than is and has been going down hill this year and they feel it might be her last Thanksgiving and are planning a big family thing with her husband's family so I kind of doubt we should plan to see her
ReplyDeleteNice job on the heart project. It will be treasured. I love marigolds too. Mine are in a pot so I pulled some dead heads, deseeded them, and have them stored for next year too! Great minds and both thrifty as well. Our Thanksgiving will be quiet here too. I bought a turkey breast for the first time. It is bone-in so I can get my cherished turkey soup afterwards. ReplyDeleteYour finished heart is terrific! Of course, anything red immediately quickens my heart rate! Thanksgiving here will be quiet. We're planning ribs and potato salad for the two of us. (Turkey is not a food that my body likes!)

ReplyDeleteThat heart quilt will surely make her smile. Smart to outline a few of those hearts as well. We do low key Thanksgiving since we moved down here, just us and my in-laws but this year just Grandma will come over. Up north, it was all my siblings and parents and kids of course those numbers have gone way down as people grew up and moved away. I have my turkey and will do the normal sides.

ReplyDeleteNothing is still blooming here! Though my geraniums were trying until our last snow and wind. We are all set for winter I think. Leaves raked, branches taken to yard waste site, AC covered up and the bird feeders filled. ( though they empty quickly) I don’t usually do Chai tea but a few weeks ago had a “dirty chai” , which I think is coffee and chai. It was pretty good. Your red scrappy heart is so cute. Stitching the tiny hearts was a great idea.Happy Thanksgiving!
