This week I finished up the September heart for my Year of Hearts project, hosted by Melisa at PinkernPunkin Quilting. It was a pleasure to stitch and I think it turned out so cute! At the link ⬆️ to Melisa's post, you will find the new October heart and some bonus blocks, too, as well as the hearts from all the previous months.
Remember the tiny apple I shared last week? I had my tall son pick a basket full of them so that I could make some applesauce.
I cooked them down until they were soft and used my mom's (vintage now!) food mill to make the applesauce.
That basket of apples made quite a bit of applesauce, and it turned out yummy. No sugar needed at all, just season to taste with some cinnamon.
I've stitched ten of the heart blocks now, a sweet group of blocks!
What will I stitch on today for my slow Sunday stitching? It's time for the October section of the Kathy Schmitz Woven Wreaths project. It's a jack o'lantern filled with oak leaves and blueberries - should be fun to work on!

ReplyDeleteI wish I could handle applesauce without sugar - I make mine with brown sugar and cinnamon and a bit of butter and vanilla at the end - definitely not healthy - lol!
Yummy applesauce! We have a tree that produces red meated apples. It makes the prettiest pink sauce and we season with cinnamon only too! That was a lot of peeling!! We don't peel ours; but, we do core them. We use a food mill too! I love your hearts from Melisa. Each one is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour heart turned out so cute! I think I could smell your apple sauce from here! We have started eating our apples, hubby climbed a tall ladder and picked a couple dozen from the very top to get started.

ReplyDeleteI think the pumpkin will be fun and fairly quick! Homemade applesauce sounds heavenly! My momma had a food mill like that too! I don’t have it. I’m not sure where it is. I like your heart collection. It will be fun to put it together.

ReplyDeleteI love Melisa's hearts, and you have been having a lovely time stitching them. I really must print the patterns off for myself to do. There has been plentry of bloggers writing about making apple sauce, not something we really do here in New Zealand. But we grow wonderful apples, and make all sorts of wonderful desserts with them.

ReplyDeleteI had a food mill like that, I used for applesauce and tomato sauce. Last time I pulled it out of the cupboard it had rusted in spots, so I threw it away. I still make applecause, but just leave it chunky style. Your stitcheries are all so cute.
