I Like Thursday #370

I finished piecing the last seam in Rainbow Bowties Tuesday night, and got it all pressed and ready for the borders Wednesday afternoon.

I just had to laugh, though, after I finished sewing it and threw the top out on the floor to look at the whole thing.  I've been working on this quilt for about a year now, handling those blocks frequently and trying different layouts as we all do, and my plan was to make 80 bowtie blocks, each from different fabrics - so 80 different prints.  But, oops!!!  I found one duplicate!  So, only 79 unique blocks after all...

Oh well!  I am probably the only person who will ever pay attention to that!

We had the chance to meet some old friends for breakfast on Monday morning who were here for a few days visiting another friend.  I've known Debbie since we were in kindergarten, we were in each other's weddings, and have kept in touch all these years, but don't see each other very often anymore.  She and her husband live in Massachusetts.  It was so enjoyable to spend the morning with these longtime friends!

Debbie brought me a special coffee mug, made by her sister who owns Hog Hill Pottery in Campton, New Hampshire.  I love the size and shape of this, and the handle is perfect.  It's my new favorite mug!

Not my photo, but taken by my son, Kevin - he was out looking for bald eagles at a natural area here in town and got some great pictures!

Our question of the week is do we have plans or goals for learning something new this year?  Something I would like to do is find some exercise videos to add some fitness activities to my week in addition to walking.  I love to walk, and try to take a walk everyday - either a neighborhood walk or something longer at the local trails or parks.  So far, I found these ladies on YouTube and clicked on the link to their website.

I'm going to give these a try!

Hope you're having a great week!
Thanks for visiting on I Like Thursday, hosted by LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color.

  1. I won’t tell anyone that you duplicated one of the fabrics…your secret is safe with me! Sounds like a fun outing with your friends

  2. Such a beautiful quilt, and I would never have noticed that duplicate block. ;) Glad you got to see your longtime friend, and that is a cute mug. The backdrop of your photo with her - spectacular mountain view! Good luck with your fitness goals - so far I'm failing miserably at even getting on the treadmill.

  3. You know, we are our own worst enemies when we point out our mistakes. Now, if they had been right next to each other, that would have been hard to let stay. Glad you have the bowties tied together and I look forward to seeing the finished quilt -- next year?

  4. Not duplicating a fabric is a struggle. But no one else will know unless you tell them! It’s absolutely beautiful! What a gorgeous coffee mug! It must have been wonderful to see an old friend! Kevin got a good shot of the eagle! They are magnificent to see in the wild!

  5. like you say no one will notice, it turned out great. Love the bald eagle and so nice you could meet up with a friend. I love that mug it is so pretty - pottery is my downfall, I buy a mug so often which will be my favorite for awhile until I find another original that I love.

  6. The bow tie top is really fun, even with one duplicate. The eagle photo is great. We have them here, but they are really hard to find. I started working out to one of your ladies videos just before the holidays. It was a nice work out. I need to get back to those. 8. I am doing Yoga with Adriene everyday. So far...so good. At least for me. Good thing no one is watching me. Ha, ha!
The duplicate bowtie doesn't affect the overall cuteness one bit! Love this quilt!
How wonderful to be able to spend time with a special long-time friend! What a blessing! :)

  9. You're right, no one will notice the duplicate block and if they do so what. Anyone who can hand piece an entire quilt doesn't have to answer to anyone. I, too, noticed the mountains in the background of the photo. Thanks for the link to the exercise ladies. I'm taking a Tai Chi class twice a week, but need to work on strength training, too.

  10. Hi Diann! Ooh, your Rainbow Bowties turned out so pretty! What color borders are you going to put on? No one will ever know that there is a duplicate block. I just LOVE that you got to meet and spend time with Debbie. That's so fabulous and the special mug is beautiful. Good luck with your walking - I'll be thinking of you as I get my steps in for the day (walking right next to you!). {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  12. How fun to have had a chance to catch up with your childhood friend! The backdrop to that photo of all of you is beautiful! I'll not breathe a word that the green fabric is in your bow tie quilt twice. . .more power to the person who manages to point it out. . .or how fun for a child to make that discovery! Best wishes that the exercise challenge is something you will like to do. If it isn't find something else. It's always good to have an alternate exercise plan for days when it is too inclement to walk outdoors.
