I Like Thursday #298

Happy Thursday, friends!  Thanks for visiting my weekly "I Like" post.   I'm joining in with LeeAnna and friends at Not Afraid of Color, where you can find all sorts of positive posts!

Although I don't bake very often, once in awhile I find a recipe I have to try.  I follow Jo at Jo's Country Junction, and she recently shared a recipe for Peach Muffins that looked good.  Since it's fresh peach season here, I decided to try it.  They turned out yummy!

Jo's recipe made about 18 muffins, and that's too many for us,
so I cut it in half, and it still made 10.  They're very tasty with the peaches in them.
Jo says any fruit will work!

Those pesky squirrels that our yard is full of have been trying to chop down the tall sunflowers that are growing in our backyard.  I'm hoping to save this one - do you think it will bloom?  Stay tuned!

LeeAnna asked about favorite sandals this week, and I have to admit I'm not much of a sandal wearer.  But I do love to walk so need good shoes for that.  Daily walks around the neighborhood for exercise, walks at the nature trails with friends, hiking and birdwatching, and golf games all require good shoes.  My favorites right now are from Saucony.  I found the first pair in a local Famous Footwear, and since then have been ordering them from Amazon.  Do these shoes look lived in or what?!

I always have a pair on my feet and a brand new pair still in the box
waiting in the closet!

Mike and I took my mom up to a quilt exhibit in Ft. Collins yesterday.   It is called "New Legacies: Contemporary Art Quilts."  This show has been going on since 1981, and my mom actually had a quilt in the show back in the 80s when it first started.  (Sadly, she doesn't remember that, and I was busy with two little boys back then, so I don't remember the quilt or even know what happened to it!)  Back then it was more about traditional quilting and called Fabric of Legacies.  Now it is very definitely contemporary art quilts and they were fascinating to see!

These were my favorites.  I wish I had taken a close-up of them.  The sections that look like they are made of striped fabric are actually many (many!) tiny strips sewn together, and then a lot of curved piecing.  They were amazing!

This is a juried show with prizes awarded.
Click HERE to see the Grand Prize winner.  It's amazing!

Have a great day!

  1. Those muffins look delicious. I will have to try them. Thanks for the link. I live in good sandals during the summer. I like Asics sneakers the best. I just bought myself a new pair. That quilt show looks very interesting. The grand prize winner was amazing.

  2. I’m afraid we might have missed peaches this year. But, boy, your muffins look yummy. I’ll check the recipe. Maybe try a different fruit. Tennis shoes are my usual too! I rarely go barefoot, so even in the house I wear Skechers Air Walks. My walking shoes need to be replaced! Famous Footwear here I come! Glad you got to see the quilts. So gorgeous!

  3. I'm like you and it is sneakers for walking and I'm always ordering a new pair to keep on hand and wear one until it is filthy and wearing out lol. I like sandals in the house as I can no longer go barefoot due to arthritis in my feet. Glad you could take your mom out to the show but sad she doesn't remember a quilt of hers being there!
I use to follow Jo but all her ads popping all over the blog bug me - same with Bonnie Hunter - all those ads all over the place that pop up in the middle of a paragraph

  4. Those squirrels! Hope your sunflower survives. Great idea having another new pair of sneakers waiting in your closet. The styles change so quickly, it's very frustrating when your favorite style suddenly disappears. What a fun quilt show, and the 1st place quilt is amazing! I wonder if they would have a record of that show your mom's quilt was in, and if they'd have a photo? Would be fun to see.

  5. The muffins look delicious. I'd like them with my morning coffee after my walk (as a reward, of course). I checked the shoes out and they come in wide. I'll keep them in mind next time I'm looking. Your mother looks like she's enjoying her outing. Nothing like looking over some quilts for visual stimulation as well as creativity!

  7. My partner laughs at me because I always have a new pair of sneakers waiting in the closet. I'm glad someone else does that too! :-) Rotten rodents - your squirrels sound like my chipmunks. Good luck with the sunflower. Cool quilts - thanks for sharing!

  8. I'm a sneaker wearer as well. I have a narrow foot and can't find sandals that flop on my feet. Mine are mostly Skechers which I find very comfortable. It's nice that you were able to take your Mom to the quilt exhibit. I can't grow sunflowers because either the rabbits or the deer mow them down.

  9. Your Mom looks so stylish! She looks sweet, hope she enjoyed the quilt show. My husband wears "real" shoes like you, I wear the sandals. He has way more shoes than I do! I like that pretty table quilt, hope your sunflower blooms. Your muffins look good, but they'd look better with a big pat of buttah . . .
