I Like Thursday #293

Good morning!  How's your week going?  Ours has been a bit crazy here, but there have been good parts, too.

We have a new roof.  That's quite the process.  The roofing crew showed up bright and early last Friday morning, before I was even out of my jammies.  😳  These guys worked hard!  We were really impressed with them.

They made a huge mess and then cleaned it all up, and were all done by about 5:30.  Here is the "after" shot.   Probably no one will notice any difference except us, but we are very happy with it!  Glad we chose this particular company.

We then spent the weekend getting our house ready so I could host my book club on Monday afternoon.  It shouldn't be that big of a job, but somehow it always feels like it is.  Only two of us live here, and we don't make a big mess, lol!  The weather miraculously cooled off and was pleasant on Monday, so I could have the group outside.  We read a great book - I really loved it!

Here is a link to the Goodreads blurb about it.

Thanks so much to Sally who posted last week that a new season of Brokenwood was coming.  Sure enough, there's Season 8 on Acorn.  We love that show!

Some cool sights outside in the yard:

Baby cucumbers!

And a beautiful Western Tiger Swallowtail butterfly just hanging out in one of our trees.

Hope you're having a great week!

  1. Oh, your new roof looks so nice! I remember how much better our home looked when we did ours some 16 (?) years ago. Congrats! How fun to have a day nice enough to hold your book club meeting outdoors. That’s a gift, for sure!

  2. The new roof looks great. Love your blue shutters! After a couple of weeks of blistering heat we've been back into the mid-80s this week. Amazing how that feels like a cool spell!

  3. Love when the roofing company does a great job picking up all the nails and things when done. Great shot of the butterfly and who doesn't love garden cukes! I'll have to add that book and series to my 'must check out' list. Have a great day.

  4. the company that did our roof about 5 years back did a good job on clean up too they were wandering all over with large magnetics getting all the nails up and debris - glad the weather was decent so you could do your club outside instead of inside

  6. When we had the roof reshingled at the farm, I too was amazed by how quickly the whole process was achieved and in hot weather too. It does improve the climate control inside and the home value overall too. How nice to host your book club and it sounds like a great book that was enjoyed too. Have a great weekend, Diann.

  8. Hi Diann! What a big crew that showed up to work on your roof! That's a worry you won't have for another 30 years or so. Yippee! Hmm. I've never heard of The Brokenwood Mysteries. I will have to check that out. Eight seasons - that's exciting to think about catching up! Love the baby cucumbers and the butterfly. I saw a Monarch butterfly in the backyard for the first time since we've lived there (13 years)! That's a positive sign. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. I am always amazed at the efficiency of the roofing crews we watch around here. I read Catherine Ryan Hyde’s book a few years ago! I was very good. The others I have read, authored by her are also very good! We don’t subscribe to Acorn, but have seen several people recommending Brokenwood!

Fun to host your book club!

  10. Yay for a new roof. Amazing how quickly that can go together with a good crew. Brokenwood is so much fun. Look at all those cukes! We're hoping to get enough from our plant to make a jar of pickles. :-)

  11. I know you're glad to get that roof done, such a secure feeling. Your house is so pretty! Look at those baby cukes! Mine used to grow too big before I even noticed them. Glad you got to host outside, I bet it was fun.

  13. Ta! Da! On the new roof! Bet you're glad all the pounding is done for the next 15-20 years! Your cukes look like my zukes. Hahaha! The vines and flowers look very similar. Enjoy your harvest!
