Happy summer, friends! How's your week going? I love this time of year - the long daylight hours are so pleasant. My garden and flowers are growing!
I've been getting lots of sewing time in. Awhile back, I shared some crumb blocks I had been making, and they're turning into this mini quilt called Full Spectrum. It's from Kelly Young's book, Scrappy Improv Quilting. I participated in her book release blog hop last fall, with a different quilt, but have always wanted to make this one.
Nine blocks made, now to sew them together!
I've been a serial book starter this week! Do you ever do that? I just couldn't settle on a book to stick with, until I tried a few. Then I landed on this one:
Wendy recommended it last week, and when I saw that it was available on Hoopla,
I decided it would be one to try!
I liked getting my dental appointment out of the way this week. My dentist's office looks a bit like a log cabin and is even on a small lake, so you can watch the birds out the window. And you have to love a dentist who decorates the waiting room with quilts!

OOOOOOh I love your scrappy improv quilt. The color choices you made are perfect! Gotta love anyone that decorates with quilts! Have a great day Diann!
ReplyDeleteOK I am not an improv, or crumb block person, but I love that quilt. I think I would buy that book just for that quilt. Glad you had a great week. I am not much of a book starter, and not finish it. I won't say that they don't take me forever to read though, because I will intersperse books in between. Perhaps that is how I can read books like The Deerslayer, while in today's society it is incorrect in so many ways, you have to look at the time, and it is a great view of what social norms were at the time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty quilt! Love it when we see quilts at doctor/dentist offices. My doctor up in VT had the prettiest pineapple block quilt hanging in the waiting room. So soothing. Have a great day (one win away from a celebration in Colorado in the NHL.... could it be tomorrow?).
ReplyDeleteI start some books and can't get in to them - other times I start 3 or 4 at the same time and I listen to one for awhile - then pick up my kindle to read another - and finally settle on one until I am done with it - at times I go back to one book and start all over again with it because I barely remember what was going on with it! Currently on my kindle is "The House Across the Lake" by Riley Sager, also listening on audio from my library "False Witness" by Karin Slaughter - next up on audio is 'The Look Alike" by Erica Spindler - the Karin Slaughter book is a little more graphic in language this time and is not part of the series that she writes - it took me awhile to get into it but now I do want to know what happens.
ReplyDeleteyour garden is more lush than ours... might be waiting a while for it to flower although I saw the very two leaf start of bell peppers finally.
ReplyDeleteYour Full Spectrum quilt is so colorful and fun! I hope you enjoy the book - let me know what you think!
ReplyDeletelove love love the rainbow scrappy quilt blocks!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your Full Spectrum mini, Diann! Quilts in the waiting room of your dentist's office? LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteCaught up on your posts today, Diann. Such a lovely array of blocks for various projects. I find it easier to listen to books lately than read them myself. I will tolerate one longer that way if I'm not loving it. I'm so glad you are enjoying summer. As soon as it warms here, we get humidity that I don't enjoy. Oh well, hope you two have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteFull Spectrum is gorgeous! You do such a good job with crumbs! Had to laugh also about your dental visit. I recently got my teeth cleaned too. I always like that good, smooth, clean feeling in my mouth. One of my favorite appointments. I was just admiring my tomato and zucchini plants this morning. They're looking good too although I see you have baby tomatoes on your plant. Pretty soon we'll all be eating fresh veggies!
ReplyDeleteDiann I love your improv quilt! That is such a pretty pattern and your crumb blocks look beautiful in it. Yes I have been a serial book starter. Especially if the book I just finished was a good one! Glad you are enjoying your summer - your garden looks great.
ReplyDeleteI just might have to browse through Kelly’s book again! My sewing time has been intermittent! I sadly behind in my blue blocks! I have a few more petunias to pot up then I can get to the weeding! My least favorite part!
