Thursday

Beachcombing at the Cape Cod Seashore  - I found quite a few that are shaped like hearts. Do you see it, too?

I've been thinking all day about what to write for my usual I Like Thursday post, and nothing seems quite right.  I'm heartbroken for the families of Uvalde, Texas, and for our country, too.  How can we let these horrific violent events continue year after year?  There are more guns than people in our country - there's something wrong with that.

Many writers have better words than I do, and I have been reading them today:  Anne Lamott and Heather Cox Richardson on Facebook and the Tiny Pricks Project on Instagram.  Like Anne Lamott, I'm just going to try to do the next right thing.

For me that means sending off some quilts that will hopefully bring comfort to some children in our country.

Have a good Thursday, friends.

  1. What can we say, it's just so darn sad and so unnecessary.

  2. I read Heather Cox Richardson on Facebook also. There have been so many school shootings since 1998 - there is a list circulating on Facebook and, there are so many!! I do not understand why people have a hard time with gun regulation - no one is saying someone can't own a gun to go hunting but you do not need an automatic weapon or hundreds of rounds of shells to do that. There has to be some kind of regulation and make the age older than 18 - If a woman has to go through 48 hours of counseling to get an abortion and numerous grilling, surely a person has to go through some kind of screening before they can get a gun and sometimes kill people!

  3. I too am sad! I can’t even put it into words! And I’m angry!
Diann, does using the padded envelopes to mail little quilts help in the postage costs? Is getting ridiculous!

  4. I know exactly how you feel. A bunch of my students just graduated to become teachers. I'm afraid for them.

  5. why this dogged attraction for killing tools? I think some people think it makes them powerful but it just takes them one more step from the true safety. I love you Diann and stand with you on this issue. Our country is sliding into chaos.

  6. Kudos to you for sending off some of your lovely handiwork; I know it will be loved. Meanwhile, I heard some think the answer is for the teachers to have guns. I have no words for how I feel about that notion. Tragic for those families.

  7. Hi Diann! My heart hurts for those families and even the family of the shooter. I think when the constitution was written, the bearing of arms wasn't meant to include AR-15 semi-automatic rifles. The incident in Kenosha was a 17-year-old with one of these rifles. Who needs that even if you are deer hunting??? I grew up around guns but something has to be done about this issue. It's not the guns - it's the people who misuse them. {{Hugs}} a bunch! ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. I love the smooth stones from the ocean. And how lovely you have quilts to send out with love.
The stark contrast of abortion rights and gun rights is so hard to take.

  9. I share your pain and grief, but have no hope that anything will change after this latest horrific shooting. When our schools and grocery stores, and churches are not safe, we as a country have lost our way.

  10. I so agree. I have tried to just keep the families in my thoughts and prayers, then to discover one of the teacher's husbands died of a heart attack the next day, I finally lost it. I have no words, I just keep praying. Sending off quilts to help is an awesome way of helping to comfort.

  11. While the TX event was horrible, there are still plenty of things to "like" in our world. I'm sorry to hear that it has brought you so down. Hopefully you'll find some uplifting posts at Not Afraid of Color. May you find some peace this week.
