One of my favorite places that we visited in Boston was the Public Garden. As we wandered around, we came across this amazing tulip bed. Isn't this beautiful color? I think this would be fun to make in fabric - if I knew how to get started.
Of course , I had to bring home some fabric souvenirs. We found a fun quilt shop in W. Dennis, on Cape Cod, called Cape Cod Quilts and Cottages, and it had a wonderful selection of prints for the "souvenir" shopper! Here's what I came home with:
Schools of fish, starfish, seashells, kelp beds, seagulls, mermaids - lots of fun things!
I haven't had much sewing machine time in the last two weeks, but I did manage to finish up my second forest green Masala Box block this afternoon (Friday).
For travel sewing, I took along pieces to hand piece a couple of plus blocks, and actually did finish one.
Once we got home, and I was looking at the fabric from Cape Cod, I decided to stitch one in "Kelp Forest" green, lol! So that will be my slow stitching for Sunday.
Linking up in all my favorite places this weekend:
The Public Gardens in Boston were one of my favorite stops - I could've stayed there much longer, just wandering and looking at the beautiful things. Nice fabric selection - will be fun to see what you create with it!
ReplyDeleteThe tulips are amazing, almost looks like a painting.

ReplyDeletePretty tulips in a bed of green! Love the souvenir fabrics you picked up as well. Those Masala blocks are pretty and the plus blocks are looking great.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous tulips. Beautiful fabrics came home with you. It sounds you enjoyed The travel. Love your green blocks for this week.
ReplyDeleteOf course you had to do some holiday fabric shopping, I dont do nearly enough of that.
ReplyDeleteI love coming home with craft/sewing supplies when I go on a trip. Those tulips are amazing. Enjoy your stitching.
ReplyDeleteIsn’t it fun to visit quilt stores when vacationing? Your fins are great. And look at you already using one. Hope you get a lot of sewing done this week.
ReplyDeleteI love a walk in a beautiful garden, those tulips were lovely. Good progress on your green blocks.
ReplyDeleteThose tulips in Boston Gardens were gorgeous, and they had so many different colors. I wish I had had a chance to visit a quilt shop, but it was not in the cards! I love your fabrics though, just my type, nautical!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it was great fun and very uplifting to see all the flowers in bloom. It's been a little different in our neck of the woods. I love to use souvenir fabric. I brought home cactus and Native Storyteller fabric from one trip to the SouthWest. A fried brought FQ of Lady Liberty when she visit a daughter in NYC. Fun remembrances.
ReplyDeleteI like your Kelp green plus sign! Enjoy your stitching.
The designs created in mass plantings in public gardens are so amazing. We saw a lovely tulip display at the Biltmore Estate in NC a few weeks ago. I always wonder what happens to all those bulbs after they finish blooming and the gardens are replanted with the summer display.
ReplyDeleteI like the fabrics you brought home. Hope your snow melted as fast as it descended. Crazy weather.
Pat
Beautiful tulips. They look like a painting.
ReplyDeleteI love novelty fabrics. Your choices are so cute!
Lovely A+++ hand piecing too!
I love visiting public gardens. You get to see things you might not see in your own area. Great fabric choices. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteWe love to travel specifically to see gardens! Thanks for sharing this one! We recommend Gibbs Gardens in Georgia (north about an hour from Atlanta). There are a couple here in Ohio that we enjoy - Schnormier and Kingswood. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy hand piecing (especially smaller projects). Thanks for reminding me of that! Your blocks are looking good. The tulips would be a fun collage quilt! I'd do lots of fusible pieces for the tulip flower on a green background ... and do thread-painting for the leaves! :)
ReplyDeleteThe tulip bed must have been such a beautiful site! You must make a project with that photograph as inspiration! You are doing so well in keeping up with the blocks for the Rainbow Scrap challenge. I always enjoy watching your progress!
ReplyDeleteSouvenir fabrics are the best! Every time you use them, it'll take you back on vacation!
