I Like Thursday #278

Happy St. Patrick's Day from Mom's place!  They decorate every door there for every season and holiday.  It's so fun to see all the cute things that are put up!

Speaking of holidays, we saw these at Walmart the other day.  Stuffed Peeps!  They're so cute!  (But they did not come home with me, lol!)

My book club met this week, and we read the best book for our March discussion!  It's based on a true story of two giraffes who were transported across the country to the San Diego Zoo in 1938, which was run by the first woman zoo director in the United States, Belle Benchley.  I really enjoyed the story, the history behind it, and the characters!

Read an article about the book and it's historical story,
and see a picture of the giraffes in their truck here.

In my sewing room this week, I've been having fun playing with these blocks.  They're not on any to-do list, I just make one here and there as I'm working on other projects.

These blocks are from Carole's pattern (From My Carolina Home).  I happened to have a charm pack to play with, so why not?!

The playing part comes with the layout.  You can set them this way, too.  If I look at them just right I can see a star...  When there are more - who knows?  I'm planning to make 16, so 1/4 done.

Hope you're having a great week!

  3. love your quilt blocks. I went to the link to read about the book and felt so sorry for the animals. I always liked to go to zoo's but always feel so sorry for the animals being taken from their home country and put in small areas so different from what they would be in if left alone. Of course some might live a longer life but I wonder what actually goes through their minds.

  4. How nice that they decorate the doors at your mom’s place. They used to decorate profusely at the facility where Mr. Busy’s mom was. I think I have a few charms that could make some blocks like yours! Jacob’s Ladder?
I’m writing down the book you recommended! The last one I read was so intense! Good but intense!

  5. Love the stuffed peeps! The other 3 in my house love peeps... me, not so much. What fun blocks to make with charm packs. One of these days I need to find and do something with mine.

  6. What a fascinating story about those giraffes. It's amazing they survived being tossed around on the boat during that hurricane. I'm glad they saved the one that was injured. What a long life they had! From that article you referenced it sounds like the author filled in the blanks and made a colorful read,
Love the charm pack you're using on those blocks. That is an old block - it's called Buckeye Beauty on Quilters Cache, except theirs is scrappy and makes a 12-inch block. Isn't it amazing how many layouts there are?

  7. I like that they decorate at your mom's. I know some people who made small door banners for their families who were in homes. Very pretty charm pack.

  9. Hi Diann! What a nice photo of your Mom! She looks quite happy. Stuffed Peeps?! They would not come home with me, either, but I do wonder what they're stuffed with. Is that a Jacob's Ladder block you are playing with? Isn't that interesting that it forms a star in one layout. They look fairly easy to make - and nice that they use a 5" square. Happy Thursday! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
