It's been a busy week at our house, with our kids coming home for an early Christmas weekend, but we enjoyed every minute of it! Lots of games were played, some cooking together, good conversation, too. I am thankful that we are all fully vaccinated and felt like we could be together.
We all enjoyed "Make Your Own Pizza" on Friday night. I found the flatbread pizza crusts Mike and I like and provided all the other ingredients: sauce, cheese, veggies, meats, and everyone had at it.
I baked a batch of a family favorite muffin recipe for breakfast - Poppyseed Poundcake muffins. Hadn't made any of these in a long time. They were yummy!
My recipe is from a cookbook I've had forever, but I found one
on Food.com that is pretty much the same.
After the guys left for their homes on Monday, life got quiet again. I miss them already! But it does mean there's lots of time to read, and I'm enjoying one of the Christmas books from Carole's post that I mentioned a couple weeks ago. It's a sweet story!
I love getting the email newsletters from PBS Masterpiece so I can find out what's going to be shown in coming weeks. Lots of good things coming up: the Downton Abbey movie on Christmas night (and the Call the Midwives holiday special right after it, I think!) Plus a new adaptation of Around the World in 80 Days and Season 2 of All Creatures Great and Small. And a new season of Finding Your Roots - all starting in January. Looking forward to all these!
And finally, we got out for a Christmas lights drive last night and saw lots of pretty ones. This house is hilarious, though! You'll probably have to enlarge to be able to tell, but this house is lit up like Las Vegas, with signs for the old casinos and everything!
I do love Christmas lights!
How do I get those PBS newsletters? My issue around here is the local public stations (and there are several) don't show everything. Maybe I need to contribute ...
ReplyDeleteYour pizza night looks like so much fun! I bet your boys loved Mom's cooking while they were there. I know what you mean about missing your kids after they leave, but yes it does leave time for those quiet things we enjoy, right?
ReplyDeleteLol on the Vegas house! How's your weather forecast for Christmas? We have forecast highs of 80 degrees on Christmas Eve and Christmas (so icky) but at least The Littles can go outside and play while they are here!
Have a Merry Christmas Diann!
pizza night and muffins for breakfast sound good - that house! too many lights for sure LOL - one of my brothers does that too - drags out everything he can think of and it isn't always pretty by time he gets done - one those cases where you could leave half of it packed away but he loves it and so does his family.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to be able to have your guys home. This our 2nd Christmas with just our son. But I do miss the ones with our daughter and her extended family. Good fun! Enjoy your Christmas Day.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteAll your recipes look so yummy, really like the muffins...I'll have to got find the recipe. I've read a few of Mary Kay Andrews's books..I have to check this one out. And I love PBS..I have their streaming station, so I'll be checking those shows you shared out. And your right, the house lights are hilarious...way tooooo many lights. Have a safe and happy holiday!
It sounds like you had a fabulous early Christmas with your children . Make your own pizza night sounds like a lot of fun. Have a very Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYay for starting Christmas early! Make your own pizza sounds like fun. Those muffins look interesting - I may have to give them a try. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to enjoy some time with your "boys", Diann!!
ReplyDeleteSo good to be able to spend time with your family! We are getting snowed in here in Sun Valley! Day after day of snow. Good for the snowpack, but not so good for traveling. My son and his family don't have to trek back to Portland until Monday, so until then we are enjoying "the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful"! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to be together, making pizza and favorite foods to celebrate Christmas together. I'm so glad you were able to do that. Having a good book to curl up with during the holidays is a blessing, too. I'm looking forward to several of those PBS shows as well. Merry Christmas to you and Mike!
