I Like Thursday #244

Happy Thursday, friends!  Hope you're having a good week!  I braved the DMV yesterday and successfully helped my mom get a Colorado ID card.  I even had all the right paperwork!  She doesn't drive anymore, but needed a photo ID.  That feels like an accomplishment!

Meanwhile, Mike got some good photos from around our yard this week.  This little bunny was all stretched out on one of those really hot days enjoying the cool grass.

And look at this big bumble bee!  They've been really interested in these tall purple flowers.  (Anyone know what these are called?  I can never remember!)

This bird nest was inside one of our birdhouses.  It doesn't look like it was ever used, which I think isn't unusual.  We've read that birds can make multiple nests that they don't use.  I think this one was made by some chickadees, judging by who we saw going in and out of the little house.

It was fascinating to look at the nest up close and see how it was made.
Coarser grasses at the bottom and softer fluff up at the top.

I've discovered that I can grow green and wax beans!  They are delicious, too!

I wanted to share this little pincushion I made last week.  The front is another one of those little embroidered designs from Crabapple Hill.

And the back is...

And a book I really enjoyed this past week, too:

When a family is fractured after their baby is abducted, they put themselves
back together with the help of nature and the outdoors.

I'm joining in with LeeAnna and friends at Not Afraid of Color for I like Thursday.

  1. Woohoo for getting mom a Colorado ID. I was kind of weirded out in Oregon. There are many people driving around with temporary plates (paper ones) that expired in 2020. Also many people driving around with expired tags because of how their DMV works and COVID. I love how big and fat the bumble bees seem this year. The bunners is very cute and how nice that it feels safe enough to relax. Cute pinnie.

  2. Lucky you got the ID in one shot! We had to go back a second time because we didn't have all the papers and almost got sent back again because we brought photocopies but the gal pretended she hadn't noticed and sent us through. Your beans look delicious!

  3. glad more and more things are getting done with your mom's move that must be good to get the stuff done. I don't know what the flowers are - Lupin maybe? The book sounds good I will look for it. I don't know why but my pole beans have never blossomed or filled out much it was the first time I had tried them in years. I usually grow the bush beans.

  4. Of course your pinnie had to have penquins on it-it's your signature! Nice that you got your Mom's ID all done. Your beans are looking really healthy, our garden is not doing well at all, something ate the peas all off at the bottom:(

  5. I *love* the color of your flowers! I think they're lupines, but whatever they are, they are really pretty. And hurray for being finished at the DMV! That's definitely a relief, I'm sure.

  6. Yay for your Mom! That is always a dreaded trip. Are the flowers some kind of Lupine? They remind me of Texas bluebonnets which are in the Lupine family. What kind of beans did you plant? The leaves look amazing. That is a darling pincushion! LOL at the penguins ;)

  7. We have bunnies too! When it was hot they loved to stretch out in the grass on their tummies! What do you use to fill your pincushions? I’ve used just walnut shells, ground , a combination of rice and fiberfill, and just fiberfill! I’m not sold on any one.
I think I agree with the others, the flowers are lupines. Not positive, my sister would have known in a heartbeat,!

  8. that is a grand mix of likes Diann. I just made a pin cushion too, and opened an enormous bag of walnut shells I got at the feed store. Now it's in several ziplock bags so I can lift and use it. The peace embroidery is sweet but the penguins on the back is a wonderful personal touch! My beans are still not at the blossom stage, did you buy plants or seeds? Leeanna

  9. A fun post to read, with bunnies, birds, happy trips to DMV, etc. I'm curious what bird made that nest - I might have to ask the bird biologist. I don't know what those purple flowers are, but that bumblebee is ginormous.

  10. I believe the flowers are larkspur. :)

  11. Ooh - excellent stuff! Yay for braving the DMV. Love the bunny and the bumble bee is so cool. What a fun find with that nest - I love how it retains the shape.

  12. The purple flowers are larkspur which is an annual version of the delphinium. The larkspur self-seed everywhere. We have several bunnies that I see eating clover early in the morning or evening. No veggies here as the deer eat everything (green beans are a favorite, if the bunnies don't get them first). Glad the DMV visit only took one trip.

  13. A great post, Diann, with something for everyone! That bird’s nest is fascinating! The flower is a delphinium (if it comes back every year in your yard like ours do). Bumblebees and bunnies - Mike took some really nice pictures!

  14. All kinds of goodness here. Glad you were successful in getting your mother her ID. That is very important in my mind. That little bunny wouldn't have been able to rest so peacefully in the yard if Gracie was around. She wouldn't hurt it, just have fun chasing it! Glad your yard was a good refuge. Have a great Friday!
