A Friday Finish!

Harmony - a hand-pieced quilt.

I chose to make one large block for this 28 inch square wall-hanging.

This is the third year I've participated in the Hand-pieced QALs sponsored by Patty at Elm Street Quilts and Kristin at Simple.Handmade.Everyday, and I've enjoyed each one!  You can read about the first one, "Sand, Sea, and Sky" here and the second one, "Book Club," here.  I've really enjoyed learning the art of hand-piecing and making each of these quilts!

Harmony started with this fat quarter bundle I found at Bernie's shop, Needle and Foot.

I used the top four fabrics plus an additional cream background fabric for the quilt top.  The bottom fat quarter worked nicely for the binding.

The backing is pieced from the last bits of the top and a fun woodsy fabric also found at Bernie's shop.

It's hard to see the quilting design, but I used a couple different matching Aurifil threads to quilt around the green and red-orange areas, and a cream Gutterman to quilt straight lines radiating out from the center star in the background.

  2. What a beautiful finish Diann! I love the radiating quilting. Bernie's bundle really made a pretty quilt. My hands ache from me saying this, but I really should sign up for a hand quilting project. I've loved watching your progress!

  5. that is a wonderful topper - for some reason I thought it was larger than it is - it is great to learn how to hand piece and quilt I think - something different to do now and then

  9. Awesome finish. I like the radiating lines of quilting and how the corner pieces could be seen as bows or angels. Sweet.

  15. Oh, what a fabulous quilt Harmony is, as is your Sand, Sea, and Sky. I remember Book Club being a gorgeous mini quilt in a vision of red fabrics. I love that these are mini quilts. Are they going to join your other beautiful quilts on your wall. Harmony is a lovely pattern and your quilting makes it shine even more. A most beautiful finish.
