It's always a great feeling to finish up a quilt, which I did this week, because then it frees me up to play with other projects. See the finished Rainbow Zigzags in my Friday post. After I got it to the binding stage, I was able to spend some sewing machine time playing with pink scraps.
Although this isn't a scrappy project yet, it does have some pink in it - my Stay at Home Round Robin center block and the first round - a piano key border. My quilty math for the piano keys was a little bit off, but I'm going with it because I actually like the look of a few of the strips being a bit narrower. This now measures 12.5 inches square.
Then, this strip of colorful cats was laying on my cutting table...
so it became part of these two blocks.
Those cats always make me smile!
For slow stitching this week, I'm practicing needle turn applique. Although this isn't a brand new skill for me, it's not one I've ever used much, so I'm working on getting back into it. Audrey of Quilty Folk generously offered to send out her pattern design for "Autumnal Tulips," which I loved, so I took her up on it. Click on the link to see Audrey's quilt.
I stitched a pink tulip!
Special thanks to Karen of Quilts, etc, for giving me tips and hints!
For this weekend's slow stitching, I've prepped another tulip. This time it's a yellow one!
These will be 8 inch finished blocks.
Lots of fun on my design wall this week!

Love the kitties of course, and your tulip looks wonderful. The term "needle turn" makes my hand hurt - lol! I tried it once, and I do love the way it looks. Those piano keys look great. Mine are on my design board waiting to see if they all fit.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing more fun than a design wall full of happy projects all getting some attention. Your needle turn looks great. So fun to practice and try to master a skill, especially one that take so much patience.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun design wall! I'm repurposing a curtain rod today in the sewing room to make a design wall. Wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing all your projects on the design wall. I am not the only one with several projects going on at once
ReplyDeleteCute! Love the kitties and the flowers.
ReplyDeletedoesn't your quilt wall look terrific - a sea of color - I love the stars and patches that quilt is going to be wonderful. your applique looks great - a good block to learn how to do it.
ReplyDeleteNice progress on PINK this week, Diann!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE those colorful cats!!! It looks great mixed in your pink block.
ReplyDeletethat irish chain/star combo is awesome. Love all your fussy cut and piano keys work
ReplyDeleteThat cat fabric :-) Are you going to use those fussy cut cats as your Project Quilting challenge piece? Your needle turn applique looks like you've been doing it for years - so nice! Tulips are perfect blocks to work on as we wait for spring!
ReplyDeleteHaving made a piano keys border for Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice quilt and needing to adjust a few keys, I think it makes perfect sense to use different width keys through the border so any adjustment needed would be perfectly seamless (pun intended). Your tulips look great and bring on thoughts of spring.

ReplyDeleteI like your SAHRR block! I hope I can get in gear and get one up to speed. I have not done needle turn applique, but I like the looks of it. It's a skill I need to work on. Maybe this summer, a block at a time.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful wall you've got there! So many delightful projects going on!
ReplyDeleteI've printed out Audrey's tulip but haven't cut any out yet. I have a feeling that tulip might be a squirrel in a really clever disguise...
you have been having great fun with all those blocks, and this is what make usdoing what we love. Your desing wall looks fantastic, the wonky stars and easy breeze blocks are wonderful togheter, my favorite so far.
ReplyDeletePretty pretty colors! I've been thinking of adding pink to a Christmas quilt, with reds and greens.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects you are working on. I love your SAHRR piece!
ReplyDeleteYour needle turn appliqué looks great. I haven't mastered this technique yet but I would like to. Those cats really lift your blocks they are such fun!
ReplyDeleteHi,

Tulip blocks...so pretty. Have a great day!
You've certainly been busy! i especially like the stars and chain on the design wall. Lovely work!
ReplyDeleteLovely projects all!!! I love your SAHRR!
ReplyDeleteI too, love those few little narrow strips. It seems you have been busy playing with beautiful fabric and transforming it into gorgeousness. LOVE those tulips!
ReplyDeleteWell, Karen is the queen of hand quilting. I bet you received some excellent tips. Needle turn is the best look, in my opinion but also the most labor intensive. Your tulips will bloom beautifully :-)
