When does a WiP become a UFO? I'm not sure which category this project belongs in, but I do know that most of the blocks were made in 2019, and I've not made much progress on it since then. But this week I've been sewing string blocks like there's no tomorrow!
Lots of blocks like these - 6.5 inch squares and 6.5 x 9.5 inch rectangles in my light(ish) neutral scraps!
String blocks sure make a big mess!
Here's where this collection of blocks is, after lots of string sewing this week:
Just 4 border blocks left!
I'm thinking about making a change in these blocks, though. When I first started this project, I made a dark red set of blocks and a light red set.
For a long time I thought I liked the light red block better,
but I think I changed my mind!

ReplyDeleteYou did manage a good bit of scrappy stitching this week. This is such a fun quilt. As far as WIP or UFO? I guess that depends on how you view it. Which ever, it won't be on your to do list for much longer.
ReplyDeleteI think you need the dark red to balance some of the other lighter blocks. I really like the neutral "border."

ReplyDeleteBoy you really did have pedal to the metal didn't you! I think you don't have it mess enough, good grief when I do it, well you can't hardly step on the floor, haha. Now that you have shown us both shades of red blocks, I do like the darker better.

ReplyDeleteSEW excited to see that you need only a few more blocks, Diann!! You asked about the red blocks. I think the dark red one might look nicer in another project or added to the back of the quilt. It feels too overpowering compared with the other blocks in the quilt top.

ReplyDeleteI don't believe in UFOs; only WIPs no matter how long they take to finish! Even when I'm not actively working on a project, my unconscious is working on it like a marinade so it will be even better when I come back to it. And if the project is marinating, it's not abandoned!! I love your string blocks, by the way. I can't choose between the red blocks because I like both of them, but the dark red one is pretty strong.
ReplyDeleteI like the dark and light red blocks. The will both sparkle with the right neighbors. I call them UFOs if they are out of sight in a box, bag or bin. If they are laying out and about somewhere they are usually a slowly moving WIP.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Rebecca Grace...it's only a UFO if you abandon it completely! I love your rectangular string blocks. The diamonds that appear are just the best. And you've really committed to it with the borders, too! This piece is so cool :)
