Yes, that's how my week has gone. And here's the evidence on my sewing table!
Pieces and parts for a Covered in Love block,
Tree blocks for the Rainbow Jungle,
and my November Color Challenge block in finished form.
The Rainbow Jungle 4 patches/rows are coming together - I push them through a few at a time in between other things.
I've been spending some time sorting crumb scraps, and I have a lot of them! Time to start sewing crumb blocks again!
This is just a tiny bit of them!
I especially seem to have a lot of reds and blues.
So, what to do with them? I was flipping through Kelly Young's book, Stash Statement, and found this quilt.
Perfect idea! She calls it "Precarious!"
The directions say to make 8 panels, one of each each color, that measure 14 x 18 inches. I started in on blue first, and here's what I have so far.
The big one here measures about 10x12.
This is the perfect sewing for when you just need something mindless.
Sew a bunch of scrappy pairs - match them up for groups of four - trim a little and keep going until you have a big enough panel!

ReplyDeleteLove the trees! Those have been so fun to watch this year. Crumb blocks are so relaxing..... but messy. I really need to make some with all my scraps.

ReplyDeleteOh, I’ve seen that crumb pattern before, and probably even have it pinned on my Pinterest board for “Quilts, Crumbs”. It will be striking. You’re a very neat crumb sewer, BTW - it looks as though you press and trim after every seam. My seamlines and joins are less regimented, more *cough* organic. Hehe. Rainbow Jungle (forest?) is looking great!!

ReplyDeleteYou've gotten farther on the CiL block than I have. Very time consuming and I'm worried that when I get the whole block together it will be too small. Too many little seams. I haven't worked on any crumb blocks in a while. It may be time to actual use some of them.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to utilize crumbs! Sometimes, it is great to sew without having to have the blocks sections be a specific size. . .with crumbs, you can "trim" to achieve perfection!
ReplyDeleteDiann, Love that precarious quilt from Kelly's book. I've made one & you know what? The crumb slabs can be any size you make. They all work well. even if they are wider or longer and all look good. Can't wait to see yours. My next quilt from Kelly's book is going to be the Grand Bazaar. Actually there isn't a quilt in that book I don't want to make. Have fun

ReplyDeleteI’m glad to see you’re sewing crumb blocks! I did a version of precarious too. It’s not quilted yet, because my long armers don’t want to do what I think I want, or would have to charge more than I am willing to pay! I’ll have to put it on a to-do list in 2021! Then maybe I’ll get to it! 😀
That was one of the projects I did for last year's RSC. I have all the colors cut to the strip size but didn't move on with the grey for the background color yet. There is hope that I can this year as I bought several pieces of grey fabric recently. Unfortunately I don't have the time now to pull it out. So, yep, next year.
