I Like Thursday #203

Happy Fall!  Although the temperatures here don't feel much like Autumn yet, the leaves are starting to change color, and the light is changing - the sun going down earlier and coming up later.  I really love Fall!

I grew some pumpkins!  So I got out one of my fall tablerunners for them to sit on.

The other day we discovered even more little pumpkins growing!  I'm not sure what will happen with them, but I'm going to leave them there until we have a freeze predicted.

Another day earlier this week, the neighborhood bluejays were all upset, and we were definitely wondering what was going on.  I looked out our back window and up into the tree, and this beautiful great horned owl was hanging out right there!

Of course, we went out with binoculars and camera, and after looking at us as if to say, "Leave me alone!" he took off over to a neighbor's tree!

I was doing some straightening up and rearranging in my sewing room recently, and decided to share a photo of this end of the room.  The black shelves and the oak entertainment center hold all of my stash.  I figured out a way to hang a few more of my small quilts over the doors of the cabinet and love having them there!

I've enjoyed making Preeti's petite sisters blocks recently - can't remember if I've shared all four of them here or not - but they are fun!

These are 8 inch blocks.  I'm still deciding on whether I will make
more and what I want to do with them.  They're just so fun to make!

I finished this book this week, and loved it!  The School of Essential Ingredients.  It's very descriptive and an interesting way to tell a story - the writer compares flavors and aromas to memories and experiences.

And a big thank you to Wendy of Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life for sending a book to me this week!  Also a fun card and some penguin fabric - thanks, Wendy!

Thanks for visiting today!  Be sure to check out the other I Like Thursday posts at

  2. Great likes! I really want to make some of Pretti's petite sisters and keep putting fabric aside for those blocks! The bluejays are so aggresive here and it's good to see that they were upset by the owl! What a great photo! You have a wonderful sewing room and such a pretty place to hang your quilts! Looks great! Have a great week Diann!

  3. You had a great pumpkin harvest! What kind are they? What a great way to repurpose that cabinet. I love your quilts hanging on it. Hope you get some cooler weather soon. It's actually been in the 60s at night here and only the 70s during the day - quite unusual for this area this time of year.

  4. Love your tablescape. I have seen others make the sisters blocks and they always are so lovely. I am jealous of how clean your sewing area is. I have been working on mine.

  8. That owl is just gorgeous! So cool that you found him and got good pictures! And I love the idea of hanging quilts on the cabinet doors- I feel like all of us makers are probably long out of wall space....

  9. Wow, that owl is amazing. Such a good shot of it. And what good repurposing of the entertainment center. I really need to rearrange my sewing studio, but, oh what a job it will be. There's way too much stuff in it right now. Thanks for the book recommendation. Like my stash, my reading list never seems to go down.

  12. Hi Diann! GREAT picture of the owl. He does look like he just wants you to leave him alone. Your pumpkins look so cute on the nice table runner. I like the size and shape of your pumpkins - how cool that you've grown them yourself. Aww, your little IS blocks look fabulous. I'm hoping to get to my larger version this weekend. ~smile~ Roseanne

  14. Diann, this post is full of goodies. Those pumpkins are the cutest I ahve ever seen. Love the fall set-up. The owl is impressive but I can hardly ever get a picture of the birds. Impressed that you managed it. The penguin fabric is so cute. Save me a penguin or two, if possible. Of course the Sisters top it all. They are smart and they are strong and they stand in solidarity as we mourn the loss of RBG (the tallest mini sister ever). Consider a mini - one tall sister with three petite ones :-)

  15. Your own pumpkins - how fun is that?! Mr. Owl was certainly nice to sit still so you could get that amazing photo of him. He looks so dignified (and slightly miffed). Love seeing your minis in your sewing space, too. Enjoy the book and the penguins :-)

  16. Your sewing studio is nice and organized and pretty with your quilts hanging. Enjoy all the goodies you can create with your pumpkin harvest. Maybe the minis will ripen before it’s too cold 😉

  18. Great shot of that owl! Every so often we have an owl in our back woods. I've only seen him once when he flew past me but we hear him hooting pretty often. Love your pumpkins! Maybe you didn't have much luck with zucchini but you've got a nice collection of pumpkins! And the look adorable on the table runner! Thanks for sharing a piece of your sewing space. Looks WAY MORE organized than my mess, er read that space! Lol!

  20. That is one of my favorite books! I read all of Erica Bauermeister's books. I am glad you enjoyed it too! Our pumpkins died in a frost in June. My mom sent one of hers home with my daughter yesterday. The farm across from my subdivision has a huge field of pumpkins planted and they have hardly harvested ay of them--I hope they don't just leave them to rot.

  21. Your sewing space looks very tidy and spacious.

I like the pumpkins on the runner. My pumpkins are all white this year go figure it is fun that you discovered little ones.

  22. I was wondering, Diann, do you use the smaller quilts for placemats? I really need to make some. We eat our evening meal on trays in front of the tv and the placemats are ancient though still in good condition.
You did well with the pumpkins. I've ever only gotten wee little ones, maybe because I don't start them early enough. I always enjoy seeing your sewing room. YOu are very neat and tidy. Bet you don't lose whole projects like I do!!
The wowser for me this week was your photo of the owl, no surprise. What a capture! Just love it. You should note that one.

  23. Oh! Your table looks so pretty with the pumpkins and your table runner! Yes, I love Fall as well! Yes, indeed, your garden does grow! I wonder if owls are enemies of the blue jays. Or perhaps those blue jays are rejecting their new neighbor?  It’s nice to play with our fabric and organize it, isn’t it? Your mini quilts look nice on the doors! Your International Sisters look so lovely. They are definitely on my to do list! I added The School of Essential Ingredients sounds interesting! I enjoyed The Quilt That Walked to Golden! Thank you for sharing such fabulous likes!
