Just in the nick of time, I finished up my August Color Challenge Block! Designed by Jen of Patterns by Jen, this month's block is all in pink and celebrates the flamingo. If you've made one of these for the challenge, you might notice I had to modify mine a bit - I ran out of the dark pink!
After I finished the block, I realized there was a section that bothered me. The arrow points to it in the photo below. Too bad it was just about in the center...
Deciding I just wouldn't like leaving it that way, I did some careful surgery, and replaced the light pink square with some of the bird print.
That's better!
Here are all my color challenge blocks up on the design wall. I'm thinking I'll use some of that red nest print for cornerstones eventually.
This photo does show the color better in my pink block!
Speaking of that red print, the July block is still bothering me! More surgery may be needed... Just for fun I remade the large corner HSTs with a cream fabric and the red print, and just laid them on top of the original block. With a cream square in the center it looks very different!
I think I like that better!

I probably would have changed it too. Sometimes it is worth taking the time to do a fix up on a block
ReplyDeleteI like the red block better with the change to lighter center and corners... now, I can see the pattern in the block. Yes, I would have changed that pink block out, too. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do :)
ReplyDeleteI forget -- is the challenge to use a solid? or is it just value? Whatever, you are going to have a lovely quilt when it's over.
ReplyDeleteThee red block definitely needed more contrast and I would have had to switch the pink print too. I might audition something else for the cornerstones, though, one you had used in any of the blocks.

Pretty blocks--I was doing this one--but am not crazy about the last 4 colors other than the red one coming up--so I gifted all my blocks to a girl friend who loves me to gift her some of my blocks every so often--they went in her birthday box this week--but who knows--I may do the rest yet!!!!
ReplyDeletehave a great week--
luv, di
Those two surgeries were definitely needed! Good eye, Diann! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm liking the changes to both blocks! Yay for sneaking it in, just in time!
ReplyDeleteI like both of the changes... sometimes you just have to listen to the blocks. They are usually correct =).
ReplyDeleteSuccessful surgery, Diann. Well worth the price!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are making fun blocks in fun colors!
ReplyDeleteSurgery was successful!!!
ReplyDeleteNice either way!!!
ReplyDeleteBoth surgeries were very effective! You are going to have another fun and colorful quilt by the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteThe doctor is in! Lol! Great job on your surgery. I think you've found your next surgical procedure too. The blocks look great and this looks like a fun sew-a-long.
