It's been a strange and disheartening week in our country. Some people are good at expressing how they are feeling on their blogs - that's not necessarily my strength.
But I do love this blogging community and have become friends with so many of you. The love and friendship you share in every post sure makes my world a better place! Hope I can do the same for you.
Thank you, LeeAnna, at Not Afraid of Color, for beginning this "I Like Thursday" community and keeping us going! Reading everyone's Thursday posts is my "normal," and I need normal right now, don't you?!
I like friends! This is my friend, Betty. She taught right next door to me for many years, and we're used to seeing each other pretty often, except for the last couple months. Finally, last week, we decided to both go through the Starbucks drive-thru, get some iced tea, and visit from our cars in the parking lot.
That was fun and we'll have to do it again!
(You know this!) I love quilting! I love this little bookshelf quilt that my quilt group friends (like Betty, above) made for one of our members, Sue. Sue's husband is going through cancer treatment right now and we thought she needed a quilty hug. Sue had been telling me that reading was her escape and keeping her sane right now.
Everyone made a block with a few books, I sewed them into a quilt top, and another group member quilted and bound it. It turned out really neat, and Sue was so surprised and touched. Sometimes our quilts make a difference very close to home!
I love flowers, and love having a husband with much better photography skills than I have! We've been enjoying these iris and poppies in our neighbors' yards.
Our kids know that Mike and I love birds, and will often send us pictures of a bird they saw that they knew we would enjoy seeing, too. This is a Mississippi Kite seen by our son in Kansas. This was a new bird for us since they don't live around here.
Thanks for visiting today! Have a great Thursday!
Neat quilt. How fun to meet up with a friend even if you can't sit side by side in close physical proximity. Gorgeous poppies.
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to reading your posts and seeing the photos of not just the quilts but also of the landscape, flowers, water and birds :). Memorial weekend, I was able to visit with a quilting friend and her mother... we all sat on a large front porch and visited for a couple of hours enjoying the weather and just chatting about things in general.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a hard week on a number of fronts. It's always a lift to see your I Like posts. Hanging with friends has been hard, but it look like you found a great way to do that. Mississippi Kites are pretty cool looking birds. We've got a nesting pair not far from the house. My Guy has come home with a few really nice photos of them. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteOh the poppies are so pretty! Reminds me of a patch we used to have on one of the farms I grew up on in SD. That bird looks like he has a large wing span.
ReplyDeletenice to have a car visit at Starbucks! I love seeing the photos of birds and flowers too so enjoyable. I can't express myself well either with what is going on in the United States right now and finally get to a point where I can't read about it or watch it on the news but yet within hours I go back to find out if there is any new news on what is happening -- too much is not good for us at times. Quilting and reading is my escape from the real world
ReplyDeleteHi Diann! Love these likes! The book quilt is fabulous and I have one on my bucket list to-do sooner than later. I also ADORE that you and Betty took yourselves through the Drive-through and sat and chatted in the parking lot. I used to see cops doing that all the time It's a great way to get together yet social distance. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeletewhat a grand idea for a visit with your friend. I feel better on days when I at least visit by phone with friends. I imagine it boosted your spirits for a while after. The flowers are so so so pretty. Hi to Mike, how's he doing? Your sewing is one of our likes too! LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteI cannot keep up with your posts - because you write so often but whenever I do you always pick me up. Sending big hugs to you and if your shoulder feels wet it is because I have been crying.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see that you enjoyed a visit with your friend, Diann! Such a lift to your spirit, wasn't it? A knitting friend and I also did a parking lot visit this week. It was nice to get out of the house for a little while.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about not seeing old friends! This week we met a couple that are good friends and went to our local Protest, wearing face masks a respectable social distance apart. It was a peaceful protest. Then we got to visit a bit afterward. No riots, no crowding, just a show of solidarity.
ReplyDeleteYou always have a fun variety of likes each week. The flowers are lovely.
ReplyDeleteYay for friends and quilting! How nice that you got to visit with your friend. The poppies are brilliant! And oh! it is the season for irises. :-) A little slice of normal so nice.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been wanting one of those book quilts. Maybe some day. Those poppies are so vibrant. I’m glad you were able to visit with your friend. This is all new normal now.
ReplyDeleteThe Kite is so cool! A really interesting head/beak shape! The story of your book quilt makes me smile, so wonderful to be able to support a friend that way!
ReplyDeleteCool Kite and love your flowers! I'm working on a book quilt too! Love yours! And what a great way to meet up with a friend! Stay well!
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful gift for your friend, well done caring ladies!
ReplyDeleteThe kite almost resembles a sea gull, at least the ones that live on the Pacific coast. The book quilt is beautiful and a very thoughtful and loving gift for your friend.
