Beautiful Blue

and batiks, too!

I've never made an all blue quilt, and seldom work with batiks either.  So when I won this beautiful blue bundle of batiks in Michele's giveaway last fall, I wasn't sure what I would do with it.

Until I saw Sandra's Centred quilt and learned she was going to have a quilt along for this pattern!  Perfect!

A whole quilt of quarter log cabins, with a 3-D sort of effect going on in the center - I wanted to try that!

The blue batik bundle worked great to make these blocks!  At first I tried to plan out which fat quarters would be the darks and the mediums, but I really just ended up making two blocks at a time and trying to make sure there was a good contrast between each round of strips.  This gave the design a "mirror image" look with blocks opposite each other in each quadrant.

I did have to buy an additional blue batik for the binding and ended up using some of it on the back, too.

I quilted Blue in a square spiral

 using a light blue Gutermann thread.

Thank you, Sandra, for a another great QAL!  This was my second year joining in, and you can be sure I'll look forward to the next one, too.

I love this quilt, and I have a special person in mind to give it to.
