Book Club QAL - Jo and friends

My sixth block for the Book Club Hand-Pieced quilt-along is finished!  Meet Jo, inspired by Jo March of Little Women, a lifelong favorite book of mine.

Jo went together very quickly over a couple of days during my evening slow-stitching time.  I've been amazed at how smoothly the partial seams go together when you are hand-piecing - so much easier than when doing them by machine!

Jo joins her friends Evelyn, Jane, Louisa, Penelope, and Cathy in my library of blocks.  Each block of this QAL has been new to me, but maybe to others they are classics?!  :)

Sharing at Elm Street Quilts' Jo link-up.  Thanks, Patty and Kristin, for sharing all of these great blocks, plus tips and tutorials for making them!

I've been enjoying hand-piecing these new blocks so much that I was inspired to get out this blue and white project that I had put away for awhile, and work on sewing up the quilt top.

This combines four Gail Pan embroidery designs that I stitched in a variegated blue floss in 2019, with some hand-pieced blue and white stars.

The last few days I've been able to stitch the first two rows together.  It won't take long to finish the flimsy, and then I'll have to decide how to quilt it.

Two rows stitched together.

My favorite design.

I'll be working on this again today for my Slow Sunday Stitching,
and sharing at Kathy's Quilts.

  2. I shall watch with interest to see how you quilt your blue and white flimsy. I have a redwork and patched block flimsy that's been sitting around for ages and I just have no idea what to do with it!

  6. I love those red/white blocks. Can't believe they are hand pieced. What wonderful work. I've tried to make a red/white quilt but seem to always stray off course and add another color or more.

And embroidery is always good no matter what form it takes.

  10. Those blue stars with the embroidery blocks are so pretty. How satisfying it must be to have a quilt that you've completed by hand! Will you hand quilt it as well? I love how your red/white blocks are taking shape too!

  13. Love seeing your Book Club blocks. Makes me want to get another hand-piecing project underway. The Starry Gail quilt is gorgeous. Looks to me like putting those blocks together might've been a booger of a job. Certainly would have scared me off! Lol!
