I'm a lazy cook, and don't really ever want to go to a lot of trouble to make complicated side dishes, even for our Thanksgiving meal. But I had a bunch of carrots, and when I found this recipe for Roasted Carrots at Food network, I knew we would like it. And, sure enough, they were delicious with our turkey and potatoes!
We had the chance to go see "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," last week, and I really enjoyed it!
It's an interesting combination of the story of Fred Rogers and the story of a journalist whose life was changed when he got an assignment to interview Mr. Rogers for a magazine article.
I've been getting out my Christmas decorations, starting with the quilty things which are always my favorites. I love this tree mini made of hexies!
I blogged about it HERE if you're curious to know more.
It was a fun new-to-me technique that I tried in 2015.
I loved this Christmas card that came in the mail yesterday. Could you make that design in fabric, I wonder?
I've been working on a tablerunner for a gift to give at my quilt group's Christmas party next week. I'm not going to show the whole thing until after the party, but I love the serpentine/scallop stitch on my Pfaff that I'm using for quilting! Had to show a close-up.
I've been slowly stitching away on this sweet little design from Gail Pan. I really love the variegated blue thread.
I have to laugh at myself these days because I really love embroidering these sweet designs with really no plans for how I will finish them off! I might just be a bit addicted to the stitching part... :)
And finally, a big thank you to our friend, Michele, of the 3P &N blog! On her other blog, Pennsylvania Piecemaker, she is doing a yearlong series on the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage. It has been really interesting and I learn a lot from each of her posts. I asked her for a book recommendation for my book club for next year, and she sent me this title -
It was available from the library, so I am pre-reading it, and will suggest it to my book group next week when we meet for our December discussion.
I'm joining in with "I Like Thursday" at Not Afraid of Color.
What model Pfaff do you have? Mine does a lot of stitches, but no serpentine. I'm following Pennsylvania Piecemaker, as well. Tennessee was the 36th state to ratify the 19th amendment and put it on the books.
ReplyDeleteGreat likes. I liked the Virtual Cookie Exchange too! I have been reading the Pennsylvania Piecemaker some of it i had known, but I have learned so much more. Great likes this week.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it interesting how we see quilts in everything - lol!
ReplyDeleteYour Gail Pan piece is turning out really pretty. I also like the variegated blue thread. In fact I'm getting another skein today and may pick up some other variegated colors. I'm enjoying my embroidery project, but I'm not crazy about the stem stitch, and that is the main stitch - hah! Have a great end-of-week. :)
Oh I meant to comment on that serpentine stitch - I really love it and wish my Janome had it!
ReplyDeleteI have a stitch like that serpentine but the curves are very close together - I would need to see if I could get it to be longer curves like you have. the embroidery pieces could be saved until you have enough for a small quilt or throw and put patchwork around them in like colors
ReplyDeleteHi Diann! Ooh, I might borrow that book club recommendation too. I have been asked to join and suggest a book and find this topic of great interest. I am certain that Michele won't mind! I adore using the serpentine stitch on my sewing machine as well. That looks pretty sweet on the little peek you've shared - I can't to see the full reveal. I would like to go see A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. So glad to hear you enjoyed it. Happy Thursday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteLove your embroidery work--so pretty. hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI have never thought about using a variegated thread for a tone on tone embroidery, I like what I see! Me too, starting with the quilted things for decorating!
ReplyDeleteI love your hexie tree decoration! I have a bunch of hexies cut that I never put together, maybe I should dig them out and make a hexie tree Christmas mini! So inspiring!
ReplyDeleteHi Diann, yes that card design could definitely be a quilt. I have the hexie papers and someday...You are doing great with that machine stitching. I will have to check out the cookie exchange when I have a chance. This post reminds me it's time to get out the past Christmas things...the ones I actually finished. :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this post, very much! I'll bet there's a pattern for a cardinal tree like that out there in the great quilting orbit, but I bet you could whip one up :-) Love your embroidery, and go ahead and enjoy just doing it. Eventually you may find something to do with them, or maybe they will just be happy stitching for now. It's all good.
ReplyDeleteI think I might have seen that book at the library yesterday. I guess I better check out the virtual cookie exchange, I saw it on her blog but didn't go to read.
ReplyDeleteMmm... roasted carrots. I like your hexie tree. What a neat card! I bet you could do that with fabric.
ReplyDeleteI've found some terrific books through my friends here in QBL! Harry's Trees was one from you that is one of my favourite books of 2019. I love your stitchery, and like I said once before, it makes me want to pull mine out...then I remember that I don't even know where I've packed up that stuff...Yes the cookie exchange is a great hop. Thanks for the link to the roasted carrots, will check it out.
