It's all about the blues!

In thinking about my scrappy sewing week, I realized that not much was really accomplished.  But I did get out the blue scraps, do a bunch of cutting, and played!

In between sewing up the blocks for my Beothuk Star, I cut up lots of different blues into 4.5 inch squares and stitched up a patchwork piece to see what it might look like as the sky for my Scrappy Sprouts project.

Birds, butterflies, sky, clouds, sun and flowers.  This could work!  I have lots more to do on this project - good thing we have two months to work on blue!

And I'm continuing to slowly hand piece these blocks with my blue scraps every evening.

Every group of four small blocks gets sewn together into the larger 12 inch star block.

Inspired by Cynthia's Oh Scrap post last Sunday, I had to go dig out more blue scraps and cut a bunch of 2.5 inch pieces.

Dark navy blue to almost white with just a hint of blue...

Because I wanted to see if I could make a block like this -

Laying it out...

All sewn up!

I see more of these my scrappy future!

And finally, the first dark blue Tiny Tuesday block - my (sort of wonky, but I'm okay with it for now) Grandmother's Fan.

Looking forward to more with my blue scraps this week!

  8. Your Grandmother's Fan block looks great! Did you use the paper piecing method or regular piecing? I am waffling as to how to start! I like the blue background for your scrappy sprouts. Great idea!

  10. I love your 25-patch gradient blue block! I saw that on Cynthia’s blog too and fell in love. I believe she used (masterfully) the same technique in her Geese Migration quilt. Your idea for the sky of Scrappy Sprouts is super; I hope you go with it. Can’t wait to see that gem finished!!

  16. Just caught up on your posts, Diann. Love seeing the terrain where you and hubby are hiking. Yes, that yellow bird in the grayish trees definitely looks quilt worthy. Loved seeing all your sisters/friends photos and your mini quilt too. AND all these so pretty blues. I'm especially fond of the fan and trying out that colourwash from light to dark. I would love to try that too.

  22. Oh how I love blue, so this was a treat for the eyes with all your blue stuff going on! I really like that gradation block with the 2.5" squares and the blue section of my squares tray is the largest, so I might need to do one of these...
