Tiny and Purple

My sewing week continued as it began - flitting around from one project to another - a little bit on this one - a little bit on that one.

And then Friday I had a DrEAMi (Drop Everything and Make It) moment - and it had to be purple.

Why purple?  Most likely because I was inspired by other quilt bloggers' purple projects after reading about them this week.  (I'm easily distracted inspired!)

I decided my project needed to be something tiny, so it could be finished quickly.  So after finding a 5 inch square of batting...

And sewing on some bits of purple in a "quilt as you go" way...

(And how about some cats on purple for a backing?)

I made a tiny, purple pincushion!

Because you really can't have too many pincushions, right?!  :)

Sharing at Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap and
at mmmquilts for the DrEAMi link-up next weekend!

  2. cute little cushions - that is one thing I never make although I have a really nice pattern for a large pin cushion that I keep intending to make and do not get around to it - I really need to get it out and look at it. I use a magnetic dish to put my pins in at the sewing machine and I tend to stick 3-4 in the arm of the couch next to me for hand work when I sit and watch tv LOL - not the best place I suppose but no little kiddies here I have other pin holders as well and never use them

  3. When I saw your purples and your little square I figured you were making a mug rug. Yes what do you stuff your pincushions with...walnut shells?

  6. Never heard of the term DrEAMI, but I know I've experienced a few DrEAMI moments for sure. Just didn't know what to call them. LOL!
Pretty pincushion! The colors remind me of a purple iris.

  7. I love making pincushions! You can do just about anything with them, and they make terrific gifts. I love yours! I always use crushed walnut shells - the best.

  11. Hmmm. I might've influenced your purple squirrel?? Now, seeing your bowl of pinnies, I hear a squirrel calling. I could use some spring pinnies for my bowl. Maybe I'll do that this afternoon! After a nap . . .

  14. Too cute for words but just right for pins. Those purple cats are adorable.
I am working on a Dreami too but I cannot blame anyone else for it. I provided the distraction myself :-D

  15. Is that a lime-y green or gold with the purple? Whatever it is I love it! I thought it was going to be a mug mat (can never have too many of those either), but I love it as a pin cushion. Would you believe I have NO pin cushions? I was just thinking yesterday I needed a pin cushion next to me as I sew, and this must be my nudge to make one. ;)

  17. I love your purple pincushion ..... my favourite colour!
Yes, you never know when you will need another pincushion! You are very wise to keep a few to hand, very useful for gifts too!
I’ve made a few pincushions this year, I was about to say two, but it could be more! Who keeps count anyway?
    Hugs,
    Barbara xx
PS yes, what do you put in your pincushions? I use polyester toy stuffing which is a little too light maybe!

  18. Hi Diann! No, one can never have too many pincushions. Ever. And what a sweet one to add to your mini collection. I was sure you were going to make a mini hanging to add to your sewing room wall. I too have seen a lot of purple inspiration around the blogging arena this week. Hmmm. What should I make? HAHA! ~smile~ Roseanne

  19. Well your DrEAMi! made me GRIN and GRIN! I needed this bright little pincushion for my eyes today because I am disgusted to have woken up to a white world again! This is a record for us, and I am not a happy camper, but the sun is peeking out now and after today we are heading back into Spring where we were earlier this week! Wonderful pincushion and thank you for linking up with DrEAMi! I may need another pincushion in my life...
