I loved waking up to sunshine this morning after several days of cold, gray, and snow! Everything just feels better when the sun is shining, doesn't it?
I have enjoyed having these roses on my dining room table for the last week or so.
DH would like to take credit for them, but actually they were given to me for free by the grocery store cashier, lol! Funny, but also a treat!
I like this little string of lights that a friend gave me this week.
They don't look like much here, but look what you do with them!
The string of tiny LED lights are hooked to a plastic "cork" that holds the battery and on/off switch. They make a really neat light from inside the wine bottle!
We enjoyed watching an episode of "Dynasties" on BBC America the other night. It was about a colony of emperor penguins in Antarctica. They are such fascinating creatures! The behind the scenes info they share about the camera crew is pretty interesting, too!
We also went to a good movie the other day - "The Upside."
I would definitely recommend it! Two men with very opposite lives become good friends and change each other's lives for the better.
I also loved this book I just finished up this week, News of the World.
It takes place in Texas after the Civil War, and the main character is an older man who stops in different towns to read the news to people. Of course, there is more to it than that, so check it out here, if you're interested. I grew to really love the main characters, and look forward to Tom Hanks starring in the movie someday!
I'm continuing to enjoy the Hand-Pieced QAL. Here is this week's block in progress.
It's possible that my hand-piecing skills are getting better with all this practice!
I can't end an I Like post without including a bird photo, since watching them is one of the things Mike and I enjoy doing the most. We found this bald eagle at our favorite local natural area to go birdwatching.
He was just hanging out up high in the tree, probably looking for some lunch by the lake. It is always such a treat to see a bald eagle!
Have great rest of the week, everyone!
My husband and I went to see the same movie last weekend. :) I enjoyed it but I think he was a little bored and might have even dozed off for a few minutes - he's not a 'movie person' but every once in awhile he will go with me just to please me; he's a keeper :).
ReplyDeleteThe lights in the wine bottle are pretty fun. Love the bald eagle photo. Last weekend was the international winter bird count weekend. My Guy went out to count both days, found some cool birds, but no eagles. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBring on the sun! We have had so much rain that the lake is up to the bottom of our dock, over some of the older docks that were set low. Love the wine bottle lights! Any idea where they came from (other than a friend)? I haven't seen our resident eagle lately. Such regal birds!
ReplyDeletewow, love those lights in the bottle - and your roses, eagle and other things! we had sunshine yesterday too and it felt so nice and hope it comes back today as it will be rainy tomorrow and Saturday. Like you getting tired of not having the sun out.
ReplyDeleteBald Eagles are just such gorgeous creatures. So elegant.
ReplyDeletegreat capture on the eagle!! What a great list Diann! Free roses are spectacular gift, and thanks for the book recommendation. The lights in a bottle are so cool, what an invention the thin wire lights are. I have some on the mantel now. LeeAnna
ReplyDeleteSo many fun things in this post! The sun is shining here too; it's wonderful! I'm going to look into that documentary on the emperor penguins. I love penguins! Thanks for the tip on the book and the movie!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the book suggestion...always looking for a new read. The birds are returning to our local bird sanctuary. The Eagles are always amazing to me.
ReplyDeleteOk- so you have a really nice grocery store-just sayin. Great photo of the bald eagle! I have those tiny lights on a shelf over the tv with faux plants on it. I used the wire at Xmas and just left it there. It's pretty in the evening. Great post! mary
ReplyDeleteHi Diann! Great photo of the bald eagle. I never tire of watching them - flying, watching, whatever they choose to do. Your free roses held up very well from the grocer! And those lights in the wine bottle - so very cool!! I will have to look up the episode on the emperor penguins. When I visited New Zealand a few years ago, it was a launching point going to Antarctica and they had quite a bit about the penguins there. I find them fascinating, too. I am 100% sure that your hand piecing is improving - it cannot help but with more practice. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteI spy Nemo in your newest block! And those lights are really cool :)
ReplyDeleteI liked that movie, too!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I love those lights! How cool is that?!?! What fun to get roses from the cashier. A little bit of color, especially if you've had snow. Hand piecing. oof! I haven't tried that in many years.
ReplyDeleteLots of fun things to see in this post. Ya don't see a bald eagle every day!
ReplyDeleteGreat likes! I love the photo of the eagle~! Your quilt blocks are looking great! Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteEagle sightings are rare for me, so I find it even a treat when I see photos of them posted on blogs. Up close and personal. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's bright and shiny outside, but I know better. Plus I stuck my head out the door to feel the chill. Happy Quilting.
I love those little lights at Christmas time. I put them in our wreath and string them through garland. I hadn't thought about getting creative with them during the year!
ReplyDeleteYour Thursdays posts are always filled with such contentment and joy - I love reading them.
I love just a rose or 2. Those are so pretty. Love the light bottle! It's fun. I want to see that movie but will wait until it's on tv. I can't do movie theaters any more. They refuse to pause the movie so I can go to the bathroom. LOL That eagle! OhMy!
