Our student chose a tee shirt quilt and my friend took her shopping for fabric that would become the sashing, cornerstones, backing, and binding.
Then the three of us got together one day and sewed up the tee shirts into this fun quilt!
Although a tee shirt quilt is not my favorite kind of sewing, making it with friends was so enjoyable, and made the work of it go so quickly!
Of course, there were some scraps leftover, and guess who got them! :)
I decided to make a pillow cover to match the quilt, and chose this design.
I quilted the top onto some batting, made an envelope backing out of the blue print, and voila!
We delivered the quilt and its matching pillow the other day, and our student was so happy with it! Her reaction just made my day!
Hope you're enjoying your Sunday!
Linking up with Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!
I have never made a t-shirt quilt, did you find it hard to work with the fabric - that was a nice gift I'm sure
ReplyDeleteI would not enjoy making a t-shirt quilt...but if you add friends in the mixture it could only be fun!! It turned out great!
ReplyDeleteI have never made a t-shirt quilt in 23 years of quilting! I have told my daughter to keep her college t-shirts and I will make one for her after graduation--two more years.
ReplyDeleteSewing with friends is the best, and this project seems very worthy. Fun quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful gift. I bet it was well received. And lucky you got to keep those pretty scraps!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with Oh Scrap!
I agree, t-shirt quilts are not the most fun to sew. But the joy they bring to the recipient makes it worth the doing. I did a similar project for a niece who used to sleep without outgrown pajamas instead of a special blanky. She got old enough she was worried friends would make fun of her, so we made her a "nap quilt" pieced out of her pjs that were knits. It was a slog making it, but she still keeps it in her room even though she's a teen now.
ReplyDeleteDoing a group quilt with friends sounds really fun! I'm participating in a Round Robin quilt for the first time, and looking forward to that :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a good way to buzz through a T shirt quilt! Nice work ladies!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet thing to do for a former student! That pillow turned out especially cute. Sewing with friends is awesome - the only way to do a t-shirt quilt! Good on you!! xo
ReplyDeleteGreat use of those scraps!
ReplyDeleteAnd I think the only way I'd make a T-shirt quilt is with friends!
What a fun gift for a student. Sounds like you made really quick work of that one.
ReplyDeleteMaking a T-shirt quilt is not my thing (I’ve done a great job of avoiding it for years), but making it with friends is a wonderful idea. How sweet of the three of you to make a quilt for a former student. And a pillow, too!
