Something we particularly enjoyed on this trip was seeing the winter wheat harvesting crews hard at work as we passed by -

In our yard this week - more baby birds figuring the world out!
I think this little guy was wondering where his mama went!
I'm liking this pretty bit of color in my small flower garden -
I rarely manage to pull together a mid-week WiP post, so I thought I'd include it in this one. I've been enjoying stitching these hexies together over the last few months as we watch TV in the evenings. (This is a true slow stitching project!)
I glue basted the hexies from one of those 2.5 inch square charm packs at least a year ago, and then they sat! I think it is Persimmon by Basic Grey for Moda.
I liked this shape you can make with 9 of them - and was able to make 4 of that shape out of my charm pack.
Recently, I've started making some more hexies out of a Kona solid blue - I think it could be Lagoon - with the idea of them becoming a background for the project and a way to join the original shapes together.
There were just enough pieces left to join together in a flower - that's what I've been working on the last couple nights. Maybe it will go in the center of the diamond shapes...?
What am I making? I knew you were going to ask me that! Of course, I don't know yet - it will probably depend on how many more hexies I want to stitch together! I'm just enjoying the process for now.
Hope you're having a great week! Thanks, as always, to LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color for hosting our weekly "I Like Thursday" party!
I love the wide open Plains! There's something really special about all that sky and rolling hills, with weather visible from a long way away :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs and I love the hexies! They are going to make a great.... whatever it's going to be!! Christine x
ReplyDeleteI had a layer cake of the fabric you are using for your hexies -I can't remember which quilt I made from it but I think it was a couch size that I handed off to someone - I loved the fabric. I love those hexies too - I never in years past thought I would like hexies and avoided them - now I can't stay away.
ReplyDeleteI love the plains of Nebraska and Kansas and the scenery too - I love the mountains too but the plains are just different - as soon as we reach them we start keeping an eye out of antelope when the kids traveled with us it was their entertainment to count antelope - it sure kept them busy in that time before people felt like they had to keep kids occupied and entertained every single second of travel with movies and Ipads they looked at the scenery
I'm with you--I love those wide open spaces! Have fun with those hexies!
ReplyDeleteI made that trip in the eighties and was amazed and so much wide open space. That photo of the bird is awesome. Enjoy! mary
ReplyDeleteI've made a quilt with that fabric, and have enough left over for a second quilt! It gives such a 'homey' vibe. Your hexies are fun to play with, make and decide later how to arrange them. Fun!
ReplyDeleteWe always had snap dragons in our flower beds when I was a kid. I'll be interested in what you turn your hexie's into. I started some butterfly ones a couple years ago, not sure where they are now, LOL
ReplyDeleteThe hexies are so pretty. You will know what it suppose to be at the right time. The scenery is beautiful.
ReplyDeletewhy, you're making hexies. That's enough for now. Finding joy in the slow stitching. Now I want to go buy some hexie papers, as if I don't have ten million of them and make something.
ReplyDeleteHi Diann,
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures you have shared with us today! Except for that green John Deere . . . it should be red! That bird really does look confused! I'll be waiting and watching where your hexies go! Happy Thursday! ~smile~ Roseanne
I love those landscapes! People don't realize how beautiful that vastness is. Growing up in eastern Oklahoma, we had to travel through the plains if we went west, and I loved it from a young age.
ReplyDeleteLove your spots of color in your garden. I always try to put blue in my gardens - usually in the form of a bird feeder or furniture, because plants with that particular shade of blue are so hard to find.
I'll be patient till you decide what to do with the hexies. ;)
Pretty flowers and pretty hexies. That baby bird looks awfully dopey.
ReplyDeleteThe plains are great for lots of sky and sunsets. But it's not everyone's cup of tea. Baby birds are such fun to watch. We've had Barn Swallows to watch this year. Watching Mom and Dad try to coax them out of the nest is always entertaining.
