I have about half of the blocks made that I think I need. I'm shooting for 48 - 9 inch blocks.
Meanwhile... since these blocks are so easy to make, while working on them, I started daydreaming, and you know what that leads to, right?!
What if????
What if I took a few of these Kona greens, and the Kona Cream that was leftover from my Stash Statement project, and... started sewing?
My husband will often ask, "What are you building?" when he sees me working on something. That usually makes me laugh, but this piece has felt to me like I really am building something. See the progression -
You can see I started to think about adding some pink to the mix. The very bottom is the darkest green I have.
Maybe even another bit of pink..
Connecting the different parts together...
And then...
I'm not sure about this bottom chunk yet. I like the spacing between the colored bits in the rest of this, so the bottom section seems almost too dark and heavy. I'll have to think about this part some more!
I'll be back next week to show you how this finishes up - I hope! :)
Hope you're enjoying some sewing time today!
Sharing at Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap!
The pink makes this sing! The dark green is very grounding at the bottom, if that's what you want. It reminds me of spring planting, with new shoots reaching up :)
ReplyDeleteYou have built a master piece! I love the green with the small bits of pink and I love how it all goes together. I agree with Louise, the dark green grounds this piece. I'm glad you added the lime and pink to it!
ReplyDeleteOh, fun! Keep on going. Your color selections are perfect.
ReplyDeletePink is perfect! Lovely improv. I tend to agree about the bottom being dark; I know you will come up with a happy solution.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a fun day of play! I love this piece. Thanks for linking up with Oh Scrap! You always have great items to share.
ReplyDeleteSo fun to watch you improvise! Looking forward to see what you decide about this creation. How big are you going for? Love all the colors you chose!
ReplyDeleteHow cool. I say just sit on it for a bit, an idea is sure to strike you soon.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. And your greens are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteDiann, that is modern improv Quilting at its best. You have a good eye for color placement. Let's see more!
ReplyDeleteWe all love distractions. Looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteI think you had a great distracting moment that led to something really fun and different:) Maybe you need to add more dark to balance and pull it all together?
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! Reminds me of lime sherbet. Can't wait to see the final quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove how you put this together Diann. I quite like the dark green at the bottom but you could always add a dark strip to the top to balance it. Christine x
ReplyDelete"What are you building?" -- I love that! My husband says the same thing a lot of the time. :D
ReplyDeleteI do love, love your Happy Bird blocks! It is so much fun seeing your "what ifs". :) Love those colors.
ReplyDeleteVery fun projects. I like the dark green at the bottom and the increase in the "weight" there. It draws you eye from the top to the bottom. Looking forward to seeing where you construction goes from here.
ReplyDeleteIMPROV!!!! It must be the side effect of working on the quilt from Kelly's Stash Statement. Whatever the reason, I love the projects.
