Charleston
I loved these sweet prints and knew I would enjoy making a little something for myself to remember the trip by. The best kind of souvenir!
And here they are in fabric version!
Fast forward a year, and I finally did come up with an idea for my Charleston fabric, and sewed it up this week!
I wanted something that wouldn't cut the prints too small, and no HSTs, lol! (I've been trimming a lot of HSTs recently, and I was feeling lazy!)
So, I cut several 2.5 inch strips out of each fat quarter and sewed them together, trying to alternate darks and lights.
I cut those into 6.5 inch squares, and ended up with this layout.
Measures about 12 x 36.
Leftover pieces and strips made the backing and binding.
And a curvy grid for the quilting -
Perfect for my dining room table, and a place to display my South Carolina shell collection!
Plus, a few of the leftover bits turned into some pink bowtie blocks and a couple of 9 patches!
This was definitely my favorite kind of quick project!

HOw pretty! I had not seen the Charleston line; I love Amy's fabrics. Your table is just adorable. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely way to use the fabric. It would have been a shame to cut it into small pieces. This way works so well.I had not seen this line of fabric but have seen Rainbow Row in Charleston. Great memory.
ReplyDeleteI love that fabric is your souvenir, something useful! I think you might just have more table runners than me these days;) personal ones that is not the craft sale ones! Did you get the one with the row houses on it-I thought for sure that would be the backing.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! You're right, that's a great souvenir and you can now enjoy it every day :)
ReplyDeletewe went to Charleston about 6 years ago and just loved Rainbow Row and all the flower boxes hanging off the windows in different areas, the walk along the ocean area, the plantation houses. Just loved it over all! I stopped at a quilt shop somewhere but do not remember the town now it was out of Charleston on our way to tour a plantation - it was a really nice shop.
ReplyDeleteCute fabric, beautiful quilt, and lovely city ;)
