Right away I thought of my favorite flower, the daffodil, and started looking for a paper-pieced daffodil pattern to use for my project.
I found a pattern made by Piece by Number in Craftsy's free patterns, and got right to work!
I hadn't done any paper-piecing in a long time, so that in itself was a bit of a challenge! It wasn't hard to get it all figured out, though, and I love how my daffodil turned out!
I decided to make this piece just the right size to sit on the little chest of drawers by our front door because it's time to add a springtime table topper to the living room decor!
That meant adding some borders and sashing to the daffodil block, so that it would measure about 10 x 18 inches. Somehow a little pinwheel and some polks dots snuck their way in, too!
I quilted this little piece using a curvy grid, and love the texture it gives!
The backing and binding are from this fun multi-colored dot.
And, if this little project looks familiar to you, this might be why -
I seem to be stuck on yellow and blue these days! (Sun, blue sky, green grass, daffodils - I'm determined that spring is on its way to Loveland, Colorado!)

after 11 inches of rain this week I hope we do not get any more for awhile so I can go outside and see my daffodils which are blooming but I can't get close to them or I will sink in the mud up to my ankles I bet! Love your daffodils!!
ReplyDeleteLove your daff! When we arrived at the new house on Friday the daffodils were in full bloom. I also have some iris emerging.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet little daffodil! I love that curvy cross hatch quilting, too.
ReplyDeleteThe daffodil is a great choice. This will sure add some welcome colour to your entry way.
ReplyDeleteDaffodil is so sweet and pairs nicely with your previous runner!
ReplyDeleteIt's just perfect and they look great together! Of course I love that the polka dots just right in there:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful welcome to spring - keep thinking positively and it will get here. It will. It must!
ReplyDeleteAh, you’ve made me want to go outside to see if we have any daffy sprouts coming up. I love how you added other elements to bring your sweet block up to the size you wanted.
ReplyDeleteI love daffodils...wish I loved paper piecing because that little table topper is the cutest!
ReplyDeleteDaffodils are my favorite flower too. Mine are blooming right now but being beaten down by all the rain. Your block is the perfect way to bring them indoors. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Your daffofil turned out beautifully. Your sky blue and yellow projects are beautiful. I'm ready for spring too.
ReplyDeletewhat a pretty project especially since we all yearn to see our first spring daffodils popping up after a long winter! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your sweet little daff! Hopefully it will hurry spring for all of us!
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet piece!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous! I had the pleasure of seeing tons and tons of daffodils when I was in Nashville a couple of weekends ago, and then more this past weekend along the drive home from FL to Ontario. None in sight at home yet! Love how the two look together, and you've given me a squirrel, no a great idea, to make a mini quilt to change out for on top of my grandma's treadle machine which sits in the front entry! Thanks for linking up!
