Colorado weather has been a bit, shall we say "bi-polar?" lately! Cloudy, foggy, snowy, and really cold last weekend, changing to sunny and in the 50s yesterday and today. I have to admit that is something I like about Colorado winters!
15 degrees - brrrr! - for the high on Saturday was perfect for an ice carving competition in our downtown. So we went just to see what was going on.
It was pretty interesting to watch! But, yes, COLD!
This serpent was one of our favorites.
If you went down at night, the ice sculptures were lit up, but by that point I was home in my chair snuggled up with a quilt and some knitting.
I am an on-again, off-again knitter, so this simple scarf has been in the works for several years. Now I am determined to knit on it until the skein of yarn is gone! Did you see the news about the Finnish coach who knits at the top of the ski run while his athletes are competing? I loved that!
I've also liked working on a little doll quilt for Bernie at Needle and Foot's Share the Love, Quilting for Kids doll quilt drive. The doll quilts are for an organization called "A Doll Like Me." Read more about this sweet charity in Bernie's post at the link above.
This is just bit of my project - more about it in my Rainbow Scrap Challenge post at the end of the week. I've really enjoyed turning some orphan blocks into a useable and loveable little quilt!

ice sculptures would be beautiful to see - but yes cold I'm sure. My daughter went to a display in WI some years back and it was way too cold that time she said and it influenced her not to go back LOL - I think it was around 5 degrees the time they went!

ReplyDeleteLove your blues still in the last post. Love that heart block too. Weather all over the place with us too. Rain tomorrow which is odd. We have Winterlude here in Ottawa and snow sculptures are the highlight but it depends on the weather. I saw that photo of the knitting coach. Apparently there is a lot of knitting going on over there. I could not knit and walk at the same time these days but so admire it...lol.
ReplyDeleteI missed checking in last week, but catching up. The ice sculptures are 'cool'. I remember our high school in Maine had a week off each February. and there was an ice sculpture competition. Only quite a few years we had the January thaw in That week of Feb! hard to even find any snow.

ReplyDeleteSweet little doll quilt. I have not figured out how to knit "loosely" but I do crochet (very infrequently). I have been working on a scarf for almost 8 years now - lol!
Being half Finnish, I didn't get the knitting gene. I tried but I'm too OCD and I ended up with blisters on my fingers. I will stick to quilting.

ReplyDeleteYes, I thought Colorado was known for their snow one day/warm the next weather. It has to be a hoot to live with it! We had an ice sculpture competition scheduled and then the weather here was too warm for it, so it got canceled this year. Your scarf looks so nice and so worthy of you getting it finished up - you need to be wearing it! ~smile~ Roseanne
At least the last snow was powder. It turned to ice the next day in the sun of course but during the snow it was easy to walk in. I went to an ice sculpture competition in MD and it was awesome. I hear such great things about Ft. Collins.
ReplyDeleteAh, the joys of winter! Except for cold weather, our is nearly non-existent this year :( The ski mountain is booming though with the wonders of man-made snow. Plus they are at a higher altitude so they do get more than in the valley. Have fun completing your knitting project!
ReplyDeleteI think you shipped your Colorado bi polar weather to us. Snow, snow, snow, sun, cold, sun, warmer, pea soup fog. Our high today was projected to be at like 7 am. I think the fog is holding up though. Aren't ice festivals fun? I always find it fascinating what people can do with it.

ReplyDeleteThose ice sculptures are fun. We hit 80 yesterday, the high today is in the high 30s. I'm ready for spring! The doll quilt is very cute and perfect for Valentine's Day. Hope you had a wonderful one.
