The Little Brown House with the Red Door
Doesn't that sound like the title for a children's book? This has definitely been a project that was made for story-telling!
I have had the most fun joining in with Jen and Jan's Mini Quilt Along for the last few weeks! Thanks to Janice Holton of Color, Creating, and Quilting and Jen Rosin of A Dream and a Stitch for hosting us!
I started with Jen's pattern - "Quilter's Laundry Day" - and this pile of fabric, all pulled from my stash -
And here is my completed mini - The Little Brown House with the Red Door -
If you look in more closely, you can see that the builder of this house is a monochromatic sort of guy. He likes brown! But his quilter wife convinced him that their house needed a red door with a star for a door knob, and a Barn Quilt to decorate the roof that matches the door!
There's a fluffy white cloud in the Colorado Bluebird sky (that's what we call it around here!) and swirls of moisture blown around by the wind. (Lots of that here, too, lately!)
A pinwheel quilt (hand quilted, of course!) hangs on the line to dry. (Can you tell the quilter wife loves polka dots?)
This sweet mini was made for photographing outside on a beautiful almost Spring day!
But I think its permanent home will be right here, next to my desk, where I write these posts!
Thanks for visiting today, and be sure to check out these other fine quilters' blogs as they reveal their Quilter's Laundry Day minis! You especially don't want to miss Jen's post (today) and Jan's post (tomorrow) because commenters there will be entered in a drawing for a prize!
Also, since this was a scrap and stash sort of project for me, I will be linking up with Oh Scrap! Sunday over at Quilting is More Fun than Housework.

ReplyDeleteSweet! Love your story, too. We had a brown-ish house once and I painted the front door Colorado bluebird blue.
ReplyDeleteOMG I love your barn quilt, perfect addition along with your pop of red in the binding!
ReplyDeleteOh so cute and I love the title! The little barn quilt on the house is a very nice touch!
ReplyDeleteHow cute, and I like the addition of the barn quilt!
ReplyDeleteThis is the cutest thing ever! I think my favorite thing is the quilt on the clothesline. What a keepsake, and it looks perfect above your desk. Do I spy some Willow Tree treasures? :)
ReplyDeleteI love the title of the quilt, The Little Brown House with the Red Door, and the story that goes with it too. I like the white cloud, and the way you quilted around it, and the cute little star doorknob. What really sets it off is the lovely binding, with the splash of red matching the lovely little Barn Quilt. I never thought of hanging a mini with a clothes hanger to photograph it, thanks for that.
ReplyDeletethis is lovely. I really like the fabrics you chose.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I love the little barn quilt on the front of the house. The builder was smart to listen to such a smart wife :) I love seeing everyone's personal touches that they added to the minis. Congrats on a very cute finish, it looks great on your wall
ReplyDeleteScrap and stash quilts are my personal favorites, and feel-good, too. We both are fluffy cloud gals, too. But I have to remark that I mostly am thrilled with the pieced binding, and rarely have the guts to do it. It looks so good here, and I will be borrowing your technique soon in my own work. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks great in it's new place by your desk. I love it! That star doorknob is just the cutest thing ever! Thanks for joining us!
ReplyDeleteOh so sweet! Love the pinwheel quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt story! What a great idea to add a barn quilt at the top of the house. Love your special touches, including the fluffy cloud and the quilting.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt...all three of them!! Neat idea and it looks so good hanging by your desk.
ReplyDeleteI love that fluffy cloud and the quilting around it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have another house on the other wall. This one just joined the "hood"!
ReplyDeleteoh, wow, a barn quilt on the house! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun story!! I love these quilts for their stories and their uniqueness. For this one--the barn quilt! And the way the quiet house lets the quilt (and the barn quilt) grab the attention.
ReplyDeleteI love this. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe cute front door and barn quilt add so much character. Also love the hand quilting you did on the little pinwheel quilt. It is an adorable finish!
Very fun little quilt! I like the quilt on the roof :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt! Thank u for sharing yours!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been around to visit every blog yet but I bet yours is the only one with a barn quilt! What a great idea! And the story of the builder and his wife really made me smile (my husband is a builder). Thanks SO MUCH for joining in our blog hop!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out so cute! I love all the little details you added and the story you gave it :)
ReplyDeleteYour block is so pretty, I love your brown house and the swirly sky is fabulous! In a place of honor too, as it should be!
ReplyDeleteFun! And I love that it has such a great name and fun back story! Your sky is great!
ReplyDeleteThat would be a great name for a children's book and this mini quilt would be a wonderful cover for it. Great white fluffy cloud and quilting around it.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt, its so fresh.
ReplyDeleteIt's a storybook house with a storybook couple living there. The whole scene shows their personalities perfectly. Great use of your scraps.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt with a story, Diann! Pretty Pinwheel, and the sweet little barn quilt was a great idea! Your binding really sets it off! Love the fluffy cloud!
ReplyDeleteBarbara x
Very, very cute!
ReplyDeleteYou entertaining story is only topped by your oh so cute quilt block! How pretty is that? I'm so happy I found you on Oh Scrap! at Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework!Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDiann this is fantabulous!! I love the story that goes with yours; so interesting in that I just read Julie's quilt's story! Love the 'same wavelengths' many of us were on during the making of this fun quilt. Now YOURS is extra-special because not only does it sport a mini-mini HAND-quilted on the line, but it has a barn quilt on the house! Awesome touch, and I love the doorknob-must add one to mine.
ReplyDeleteLove your little mini block, pinwheels are one of my favourites. Love the cloud!
ReplyDeleteLove, love love !
