To get the star design that I'm after, I think I will need more full color blocks than half and half, so it's a good thing I have lots more strings to sew up!
I definitely need to do some math and get a plan going so that I don't end up with unusable blocks!
I also dug through my collection of orange peel blocks for the purple ones I made last year, and put them together to make a little mini for my favorite snowman mug to sit on.
As is typical for me, it's hard to get the pretty purple color to come through in my photos. ;(
I like to change out my mugs for the season every year. After Christmas, I get out the snowmen!
This little guy has a cute purple, striped hat and polka dot scarf, so he gets the place of honor!

Block looking good and lovely collection of mugs. I have decided to take part in the scrappy challenge this year ourple is the fabric colour I have least of so will have to wait to do that also not sure what block to make thinking at the moment churn dash but who knows what I will think tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteOh I really like your string blocks! Are you sewing on a foundation?
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to use orphan blocks for mug rugs. Nice quilting on your orange peel.
ReplyDeleteFabulous blocks! I was making a small string project earlier this week that wasn't working for me (it's currently wadded up in the corner). Your blocks have helped me immensely - I now see where I went wrong. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the only one who decorated with snowmen in January! Love your mug rug - great quilting effect on that.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to make a bit of purple progress this week. Lovely mug rug, perfect spot for your snowman mug. Just right for this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI love string blocks, they always make stunning quilts, except all the trimmings go back into the scrap bins and live forever. lol
ReplyDeleteGreat use for the Orange Peel blocks. The snowman mug is so cute. I should get in my string bin and whip up one or two also. I probably don't have enough purple for even one block but you are inspiring me. ;^)
ReplyDeleteOh won't that be a fun quilt! Love the layout options!
ReplyDeleteOoh, lovely string blocks.
ReplyDeleteWonderful string blocks, Diann. And how thoughtful of you to give your snowman mug such a cute place on which to rest! You had a great sewing week! xo
ReplyDeleteOh Diann your snowman mugs make me GRIN!! Love them, as well as the mug rug. The string blocks--great minds, I'm thinking of doing something with strings for a second RSC project.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! on finishing that little mug rug. We have to celebrate the little things while waiting for the next BIG thing to evolve. Your PURPLE string blocks are coming along nicely!!
ReplyDeleteThe mug and the rug are a perfect match. As for the strings, it seems to be check and recheck before sewing. It's so easy to get off track. Good luck with that project. It will be an outstanding finish.
ReplyDeleteYour string blocks look enticing. I like the possibilities given the block with the white strip down the middle.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea for mugs! And I love any quilt made with strings!
ReplyDeleteAh cute snowman cup on your mug rug and lots of purple progress thus far :)
ReplyDeleteSeasonal mugs - what a great idea! Love the string stars idea - looking forward to seeing your results!
ReplyDeleteOh, I can't wait to see your stringy star! Sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteThat snowman is adorable!
Awesome string blocks! Looking forward to seeing your stringy stars develop. Cute mug rug and mug.
ReplyDeleteLove a good mugrug, we have them scattered everywhere/
ReplyDeleteLove the purple, the mug rug, and the mug!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty string blocks. Looking forward to seeing how you decide to set them. Some digital cameras just don't do well with purple. I had to adjust the color balance to get my purples to read true in the photos this week.
