Bonus Triangles

Inspired by Crazy Mom Quilts and her quest to make a pincushion for every day of the month of July, I realized that was something I could do with a few of the bonus triangles that have come from making the blocks for my Nighttime Blossoms quilt.

While continuing to work on cutting for that quilt...

I took a few of the bonus triangles and made up a tiny HST block... 3 1/2"...

and turned it into a pincushion!

The back is a bit of the gray flowers from the Good Neighbors fabric line.

And now I have my own (little) pincushion collection!  I've made two of these; the rest have been gifts.

Can you tell which one of these I use the most?

Since I still have 12 more blocks to make for the Nighttime Blossoms quilt, there will be lots more bonus triangles.  Any ideas about what I else I can make out of them?

Looking forward to Scrappy Sunday sharing over at Oh Scrap! at Quilting is More Fun than Housework!

  1. Lovely little pincushion. I have HSTs that could be put to the task. Thanks for the inspiration. Gorgeous collection you have. I can see your favourite one is very busy. ;^)

  2. Nice functional use for those bonus triangles. Not sure what I would do with so many pincushions if I made one every day in July. I already have a shelf of pincushions gathering dust!

Maybe another use for them would be a hotpad? We always need those around here. My husband somehow manages to put burn marks on lot of them.

  3. You are getting quite the fun collection! Can a quilter have to many? I don't think so! Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

  5. Lovely pincushion to add to your collection!
Bonus triangles used for sawtooth sashing? Tiny Sister's Choice blocks for a doll quilt? Itty bitty Friendship stars?
    Lots of possibilities!

  6. I just saw a pattern on Moda Bakeshop that uses a lot of bonus triangles. The pattern was simple: a rail fence, but one of the rails was made of HSTs. All of the ones in the pattern were red and neutral, but I think any color would work. It's a quilt I might make myself!

  7. I have a pile of bonus triangles, various sizes, various background colors. Some day I'll trim them and lay them out and get creative. Laura's idea sounds promising. I've also thought about bear-paw and premium-star type blocks in various sizes. Claire aka knitnkwilt

  8. I am playing catch up while supper is cooking:-) I love your pincushions. Lots of people have been making bunches but I have never made any, but I have some that were given to me.
The bonus triangles could be made into a little pouch. Make some pinwheel blocks is something that is on my list to do with my bags of triangles.
