And rainbows...
So when I learned about the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at SoScrappy, I knew I needed to join in for 2016. I started experimenting with blocks for it a month ago or so, and came up with two ideas.
I've been wanting to try 16 patch blocks, so I've made a few of those:
And I am also planning to make at least one Scrap Jar Star in the color of the month as well. To experiment with this block, I made one in yellow, so a blue one, for January, is still in the works!
,
The great thing about working with these two different blocks is that the 16 patches piece quickly and easily with strips of fabric, but the stars use smaller pieces, so I can use up different sizes and shapes of scraps this way. I think I will enjoy making both and seeing what I end up with later this year. It's fun to have a plan, and a new group to link up with each month. Definitely a Scrappy New Year for me!
I'll see you over there , today Scrap Happy Saturday and tomorrow at Oh Scrap!, at Quilting is More Fun than Housework.
Love your star, and will be looking forward to see it in blue. I am doing Sawtooh Star with crumbs strips to use all those little bits of scraps. The 16 patch is also a great idea for 2016. Happy New Year. Hugs
ReplyDeleteBoth great blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Love that yellow fabric! It goes great with blue.
ReplyDeleteGreat choices for your blocks. The yellow is so sunny and will look great with a blue.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Deb! I'll be getting out my blue scraps this week!
DeleteOh what great block choices. I really like the star! Amd it is fun seeing that strip quilt again. It makes me want to get out my rainbow scraps and make one of my own!
ReplyDeleteStars are always a good choice for a block, and that's a great one! Both blocks are going to perfect to play with.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're playing along in RSC - it's so much fun focusing on a different color each month.
Thanks, Gayle! I'm excited to join in, and have been wanting to make a star quilt. Time to get out the blue scraps!
DeleteOh, great choice! Scrap Jar Stars are fun and great stash-busters. The 16 patch blocks on their own are great building blocks for scrappy quilts. I look forward to watching your progress!
ReplyDeleteBoth are great ideas for RSC. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI joined So Scrappy 2015 from afar (in that I didn't link up, but followed her colour of the month) and I plan to join in with a real presence for 2016. Love your Jar Star! I haven't seen that one before and stars are my favourite!
ReplyDeleteI am planning to join in too. Love the 16 patches and scrap star! Will you put them together? I'm still a little unclear about the challenge. Does everyone follow her lead on the pattern? Or mainly the color? I really like your star!
ReplyDeleteI kept seeing scrap jar stars last year on the RSC blogs. It was a very tempting block but I've decided to just make postage stamp stars (leaving out the colored corner squares). They will only be 8" blocks but they'll be simpler!
ReplyDeleteI've done up a few Scrap Jar Star blocks, but hadn't thought of doing them in one colour - great idea for RSC16!
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks for the RSC. Looking forward to seeing them in each month's color.
