The last few days I've been focused on making Block #8 for the Little House SAL at Melva Loves Scraps. It starts with a patchwork heart block. It's a miniature version of the 12 inch heart block that we made for the Pieces of My Life quilt, which is one of my favorite blocks ever!
I had a harder time making the 6 inch version of the block - not because the strips were tinier, but because I had a hard time choosing fabrics that would work for the design. I made it twice, in fact, and scrapped both of them in favor of a simpler version like this:
Once that was taken care of, the log cabin strips were added and here is the finished block.
Only one more block to make!
With all the strip cutting for the log cabins, I'm ending up with leftover chunks of the jelly roll to use up, so I decided to make a few tiny four patches out of them. They made good leader/enders for the strip piecing, too.

Your colorway for the SAL is just a tad unusual and that makes it wonderful. Good selection for the heart block, too.
ReplyDeleteYour little heart block is perfect! Only one block to go…I like seeing your blocks coming together. Gail at the cozy quilter
ReplyDeleteI love your simpler version--great fabric choice for this one...your piece is really looking great!! Nice work...Hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI think it was a good choice making the heart solid. There are already a lot of strips with the log cabin portion. The block finished nicely.
ReplyDeleteI think your version of the heart is better as it doesn't compete with the logs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect choice for your heart! I sound like a broken record, but I just love these fabrics. Can't wait to see yours completed!
ReplyDeleteGreat fabric choice for the heart! It works perfectly within the block as well as with the other finished blocks!
ReplyDeleteWell, aren't you clever! I love it. Thanks for sharing in the block party.
ReplyDeleteFun blocks!
ReplyDeleteOh Diann, your Heart Block looks beautiful. I love the fabric that you used - that was a good idea to use one fabric. I worked on my block today. Have a great day. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are looking gorgeous in that fabric line, Diann.
ReplyDeleteI love your color palette, and Texas Quilt Girl's too. It's neat to see how your color choices make such beautiful quilts.
ReplyDeleteYour block is lovely so it seems it was a good choice to simplify the center. I adore the fabrics you're using! Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

sometimes it seems the smaller the block the harder it is to choose color as with prints one might really take over the block or several prints can be too much and you can't really see the design
ReplyDeleteHahaha -- I understand completely! Choosing fabrics is the best part, but also the HARDEST part of every project! Your log cabins are coming along beautifully and I love the little mini block centers.
ReplyDeleteI love those colors!!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear this block brought some stress. Good for you for thinking outside the box and finding a simple solution (which I love BTW). This project is coming along so beautifully. I love the colours and prints in it. ;^)
ReplyDeleteI really really like your SAL blocks. I think the simpler heart works really well. It’s going to be an outstanding quilt. Snickerdoodles with sourdough! Sounds perfect. Does he share his recipes? A fellow stitcher is doing sourdough and is on the lookout for different recipes.
