Every year I attempt to grow a few pumpkins in my garden, and 2025 was a pretty good year.
Four of them!
So when Wendy at Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life, the host for the fourth round of the Stay at Home Round Robin, called for blocks with curves, I knew just what I would make. Here was my chance to add some pumpkins!
These were drawn onto a Pellon fusible that I had in the stash, cut out, and will be fused down to the center section that I previously made.
My pumpkins are small because they need to fit here -
I'm still thinking about how to resize the double slice blocks that I made for round two - maybe I'll just add a little coping strip to them when I decide how everything will be sewn together in the end!
And speaking of Fall, I started a new project this week. Melva, at Melva Loves Scraps, is hosting a QAL inspired by the Little House on the Prairie book series, and I have started on the first block - the Maple Leaf.
This is just the center of the block - the leaf will be surrounded by log cabin strips. I won a jelly roll of a beautiful Fall themed fabric line last year when I participated in the Fall Fortnight fun over at From My Carolina Home. I'm hoping these strips will work for the log cabin section of the blocks.
Something like this? This is just the first round, though - these blocks end up at 16 inches square!

Melva Loves Scraps for Sew and Tell Monday.
I missed your earlier post, I really like your take on the "double" round! And the pumpkins fit your embroidery nicely. Lookin' good.
ReplyDeleteThe pumpkins are a nice addition to your wall hanging. You seem to have a fall theme with your projects right now…. I loved watching Little House on the Prairie when I was little. Gail at the cozy quilter
ReplyDeleteOh I just love your cute little pumpkins on this piece--just perfect!!
ReplyDeletehugs, Julierose
Hi Diann. I love the shapes of your little pumpkins and the lovely fabric. Just perfect. BTW, I don't appreciate you sharing link to a new quilt along. I love fall fabrics and blocks and I don't really have room here to squeeze in another project. I must go check it out. (wink)
ReplyDeleteI love your pumpkins! What a great answer to that prompt and coping strips would be a good way to treat those double blocks!
ReplyDeleteThat was a smart idea to add the pumpkins! With your double slice block, how about just adding a coping strip to one side and then when placed with the coping on the left for one and the right for the other they would look like they were dancing.
ReplyDeleteThe pumpkins are an inspired addition to the SAHRR. They definitely add a bit of whimsy to the project. I like the fabrics you've chosen for the Little House on the Prairie blocks. Those will be fun.
ReplyDeleteWhile spring is in the air, fall is on your mind. <3 Your little pumpkins are a great addition to the borders. I love your maple leaf and the fabric choices for the log cabin. Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell.
ReplyDeleteThose pumpkins are so cute. I like the shapes you made them and the fabric you used.

Oh, the pumpkins are delightful and a fun response to this week's prompt!
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkins are so cute! They look perfect where you placed them. It's really coming together - can't believe it's going so fast!
ReplyDeleteYour maple leaf looks so good with that beautiful fabric! I love when a fall collection includes blue.
Hi Diann, I love your small pumpkins - they are so cute! I'm looking forward to seeing how your log cabin block around the maple leaf comes out!
ReplyDeletethe pumpkins are great additions and suit it really well I like all those strips too this is going to look really good for fall when you are done.
ReplyDeleteThe pumpkins are perfect for your SAHRR quilt. You are so creative, Diann. Well done.
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkins are a nice 'curve' addition to you SAHRR. :) I'm stumped on what I should do....
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adorable pumpkins! Very creative. I’m going to check out Melva’s QAL. I’ve got so many fall fabrics!
ReplyDeleteOh phooey. Anonymous above is me!
ReplyDeleteOh, I recognize those fabrics from the Benartex line! I like your take on adding curves, pumpkins certainly qualify and much easier than piecing a curve. Clever girl!
ReplyDeleteNice addition of the pumpkins. I've got that sew along pinned to my task bar and plan to make that using a jelly roll of purples I have. I hope to make my block this afternoon... but I'm going to go rogue and use 2.5 inch strips and get a bigger block... cause I'm lazy!
