Things are growing at my house! Flowers -
And veggies, too - green beans in the back, pumpkins in the left front, and cucumbers to the right.
We are again fighting with the rabbits over the green beans, so the wire fencing is an attempt to keep them out. This year they don't seem to want to eat the plants, but they want to burrow down in behind them. I'm hoping I will not go out one morning and find a nest of babies in there!
Wednesday morning - she's back! No matter what we do, the bunny finds her way in and digs a big "burrow!"
Naughty bunny!
I was a lucky winner in the Orange Peel QAL over at The Crafty Quilter. She sent me a whole package of goodies! Of course, I am most excited about the fabric - a mini charm pack of Strawberry and Friends by Kimberly Kight, and a regular size charm pack of Tilda prints - I've never had any Tilda before!
A pretty quilt pattern designed by Julie, and some fun tools, too.
Applique needles, bobbin holders, and some foundation paper for square in a square blocks. That might work well with the Tilda charms.
Thank you, Julie!
LeeAnna's question of the week is about swimming. Did we learn as kids and what was that like? I did learn to swim as a kid, and have always enjoyed being in water. I never have been a strong swimmer - no swim team for me - but enjoy being in and around water. Many neighborhood people where I grew up in Rochester, NY, had backyard pools, so the swim lessons were set up right there.
But the best memory of swimming comes from visiting my grandparents in Iowa City, Iowa, who belonged to the Elks Club where there was a great outdoor pool. We would visit for two weeks every summer and they would take us to the pool every day. We could also eat lunch there. That is the perfect way to entertain grandkids!
My aunt and uncle had a pool and we had an open invitation to go there for a swim. I took swimming lessons for years. We also rented a cottage every summer and loved swimming in the lake. We also canoed and did some water skiing. Fun memories.
ReplyDeleteThose bunnies can be a pain when you have a garden! Good thing they are cute.
Nice prize!
Gail at the cozy quilter
Bunnies are so cute, but they can be nasty pests too. Hopefully you can outwit that bunny. My mother was so scared of water she made sure the three of us kids took swim lessons when we were in elementary school. I can swim, but not well. My last swim instructor told me I'd never be a great swimmer but if I was ever involved in an accident on the water, I'd be the one to survive. Not sure what that meant, but at least I was good at one thing in the pool.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers and plants look beautiful. Those veggies are thriving, what size is that container? Did you add a lot of soil? That's a cute pic of the bunny hiney! Bunnies are so cute, We've had some living under our shed since we moved here. In spite of the dogs, they seem to be doing quite well. I've never caught them in the garden but I suspect they get in it.
ReplyDeleteI took swim lessons with my friends when I was 11 or 12. The instructor thought the best way to practice what she taught was for us to jump into the deep end. I panicked and thought I was drowning, never forgot it - not too impressed with that method of teaching!
My dad and mom used to water ski. I can remember riding on my dad's shoulders while he skied. If we fell, I would paddle after the ski. . .I was three or four. When I was five, I took lessons with my cousin. He was afraid of the water and my grandma thought I would be a good influence. He was seven and cried most of every lesson. He eventually became a scuba diver since he wasn't a good a floating. We used to laugh about that because, although I have been scuba diving, I much prefer snorkeling and swimming closer to the surface! What a haul and congratulations on your win!
ReplyDeleteI think the bunny feels safe in that spot in the dirt under the leaves. I did not realize you lived in Rochester NY growing up. My sister lived there for about 7 years and I drove over to see her quite a few times. I never really got lessons on swimming, but being at the lake each summer I learned with a life jacket on. It took a while before I braved without it - age 10 maybe?. I have strong legs, but the arms are weak. The kids had lessons before age 1 and then once we got down here in Florida for a few years so they are confident in water. Great prize win.
ReplyDeleteThat bunny probably thinks you planted those veggies just for her!
ReplyDeleteI think you will need a tall fence all the way around your plants to keep that bunny out. A squirrel was digging in one of my flower pots and I sprinkled Cayenne pepper in there and I haven't seen evidence of him in there since.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the win! You are on a lucky streak...have you considered lottery tickets?! :)
ReplyDeletePretty flowers and your veges are looking healthy, in spite of the bunny. Silly rabbit! Congratulations on your win. I've used the square in a square paper and think you will like it.
ReplyDeleteI never learned to swim and I have a fear of water. I grew up next to Lake Michigan and a colder lake I don't know of - it is freezing, not many swam in it - we would dabble our toes in it and run back to the bonfire. By time I thought to learn how to swim I had already had a near drowning experience and could never force myself to to do more than wade in a creek or river.
ReplyDeleteThose bunnies sure are determined. you would need wired down into the ground to keep them out it looks like.
Congrats on your win, you got quite a bit
Your rabbit and vegetable garden remind me of the children's book, Muncha, Muncha, Muncha by Candace Fleming. I think I remember that you are a former librarian, so perhaps you are familiar with it. Good luck keeping the rabbits out. Until then, think of it as a rabbit's bed and breakfast. BTW: I always enjoy your quilts and crosstich pieces.
ReplyDeleteBad bunny! Great looking garden, though.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious what the bunny has decided! I hope you can find a way to keep the rabbits out. Visiting grandparents in Iowa looks like the perfect place to spend summer. I have a fear for water too. We had swimming at school, I feared the water from the beginning and when the teacher forced me to dive and I almost drown, no more swimming for me!
ReplyDeleteLunch at the pool sounds fabulous! Great gift you received. I've never seen Tilda fabric around here. What do you think? I think your bunny wants to have her babies in your flower box. They pick the weirdest spots sometimes but my mother had a rabbit build her next in one of her big plant containers. Maybe the babies are already there? Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteI saw you were a winner and now I get to admire your loot! Great job. I know it was a random drawing but, if they were picking pretty versions, you would still have been a winner. Loved your orange peels. I'm trying to figure out how that little bunny got into your veggies with the fencing in place. Houdini-bunny!
ReplyDeletewe're fighting for custody of the lettuce from our yard bunny. Crikey. Drew put a cardboard box around the planter, which will work while the rabbit is small.
ReplyDeleteThey shape change and go through the eye of a needle
speaking of which you got my favorite needle, the japanese tulip ones. You got great gifts, congrats! Love the past pic, I remember those style suits.
