I Like...

that my Stay at Home Round Robin is finished!

This is the third year I've joined in the Stay at Home Round Robin QAL, which is hosted by Gail at QuiltingGail, and several blogging friends.  I knew I needed to keep my project fairly small this year, so I started out with an embroidered piece as the center and a plan to have a blue and white quilt at the end.

To keep things simple, instead of adding a round each week, I just made the called for blocks each week, and waited until the very end to put everything together.

My collage attempt didn't get everything in the right order
for the weekly prompts, but it does show all the blocks I made:
One spool block (for the center), square in a square, flying geese, pinwheels, friendship stars, and hourglass blocks.

In the last two weeks, I sewed these blocks into borders and onto the center, added a final outside border, and finished it all up!

Isn't that outside border fabric perfect?
The trees are sparkly silver!

So, here is my finished 2023 Stay at Home Round Robin quilt!  It's about 25 inches square.

I thought the blue with white dots would make a fun binding!

An outdoor photo - winter isn't really welcome here anymore, but we're not quite at spring yet either.  It was a pretty day today - blue sky, white clouds, still bare branches on the trees.

Speaking of Spring - a few little yellow crocuses have been poking their heads up in my flower garden!
I'm always happy to see them!

  3. I like the embroidery mixed into it - and a flower - bet you were so happy to see the flower blooming now even with cold weather or sometimes snow you so know for sure spring is on its way

  4. I have a few purple crocuses in my flower bed. I love them. They're the first ones, along with my daffodils, to proclaim that winter is almost over!

  5. Great job on your SAHRR! And I absolutely LOVE your blue polka dot binding! Yup, Spring is getting close for you when you start seeing the crocus come up! Have a great week -- you, Mike, AND your mother!

  6. Super cute SAHRR wall hanging!! I really want to remember your method of keeping the QAL project small. Two out of three of mine have been small, but I haven't yet made blocks to combine into one single border. Brilliant idea, Diann!

  7. Such a cute finish Diann - The polka dot binding was a great choice!
I am going to plant crocus for next year. Last fall I did manage to plant loads of daffodils and those are about another ten days from blooming. But I didn't get any crocus planted and I love having that early little bit of color. I better put it on the calendar for fall or I won't remember. It is time to plant sweet pea seeds and I just bought those. Come on spring! Hope your mom continues to heal. Is all going well for her?

  10. I love how you made this lovely quilt with all the prompts from the SAHRR. I really like that this challenge is so open and you and all the other participants use your creativity to make your projects uniquely your own. The blue and white colors make me smile. Your polka dot binding is just the thing. Congratulations on another great quilt.

  11. Such a cheerful, fun finish for your SAHRR. I love it! It's the perfect size, too. Glad you were able to get it done, in spite of all the things going on for you! I'm waiting to see flowers - but they are buried under so much snow!

  12. Everything about your SAHRR is just perfect!! I love that you added the blocks all together in a border instead of each round being a different block. Your snow is all melted?

  13. Hi Diann! What a fabulous finish . . . and that border fabric with pine trees and snowflake dots. What a fun project and I love the fabrics you chose. The blues are so vibrant and true. I love the little crocus, too. They are always so fragile looking yet they are very purposeful to let us know that Spring will happen. How is your Mom doing? {{Hugs}} a bunch for both of you. ~smile~ Roseanne

  15. Oh I love it! You were smart to wait until the end to put it all together. I really like how you did your spools! The blues are gorgeous, and it made a nice size.
I've already started taking parts of mine apart. I just don't like it, and I'm not sure I'll ever finish it. I'm going to go a different route next year!

  16. It’s lovely Diann! I hope there will be a QAL next year! I’m going to use your inspiration! No flowers here yet, not in my yard at least. I can’t wait to be able to get some color going around here. The snow is nearly gone, what’s left I’d dirty and grimy looking! Grass hasn’t started to green up, but it will! I look forward to that. Hope your mom is improving in the new place! :>

  17. That blue is showing like an electric blue on my computer, quite striking. Great finish, Diann. How nice to have the snow gone already. It must warm up fast where you are, and look, crocuses too. Enjoy!

  20. What a darling quilt! And I’m saying that as I’m ready to kick winter to the curb. We’ve had non-stop snow here all month (after almost nothing to speak of for Jan and Feb.) There were squalls over and over today, and the main highway is closed to clean up a big pileup. Well, back to the quilt. I like your take on the SAHRR process, making the blocks and then putting them all together. It will be fun for you to display next winter. (Please, no more snow this month, or at least after Monday, when it will really be spring.)
